Haven't seen anything here on issues in a while, so I thought I'd post
this link.

The article features/is a discussion between Maura (of maura.com) and
Christine (of maganda.org) about women on the web.
I don't know who these 2 people are,
Just got done with my Thanksgiving week reading for my Gay and Lesbian
Studies class. It was a wonderful book by Daphne Scholinski, "The Last
Time I Wore a Dress."
It's an autobiography chronicling her time spent in mental institutions

I have been working with a woman in the extended degree program named
"chris". I know she's a woman because I've seen her and dealt with her for
a while, but I can ONLY imagine how unnerving

I'm not so sure... wouldn't saying "mechanics of information technology
and hardware" be redundant, then?

indicates that the way programming/computer-oriented courses are taught

With girls, I think it is more even between father and mother, though
personally I have found it leans toward the father.
I have a great relationship with my father, he likes to tinker with
things and understand how they work. When he started college in the mid

I agree with that statement.
The comments (at least as of earlier today) were pretty one-sided... in
general, people (or as "people" as slashdot comments get) seem to
perceive linuxchix as a bunch of women sitting around bitching about men
and talking about how we want to be separate. I don't kno

The home of these lists is after all 'linuxchix' :o)
I think the WindowMaker team's intentions are good, it's great that they

Hmm, I don't think that's quotas... I think it's a good thing (tm). As
Skud said in her article and on this list, one of the best steps to take
is to just plain say "you're welcome, come work on our development team".
Maybe it's because I'm not seeing it all (goes to windowmaker.org), but I

It has been said in the slashdot thread that amazon might not allow such
comments in the author comments section, and/or RMS hasn't bothered
doing it to all of his own books that are listed there (and there are
quite a few).
Personally, I don't think it's worth it to boycott amazon... but rather
It's a pretty huge part of our EECS (http://www.eecs.wsu.edu) program. A
whole 300 level undergraduate course devoted to it (one you would
probably take in your third or fourth semester in the program), and
those concepts are used throughout your undergrad "career" fairly
extensively. (especially

I don't know the percentage of women in the linux world, but I'd bet
it's more than 2%.

Last I checked, open source people don't rip off others' code, stick it

Perhaps. But after you hear "women can't do xx" (where xx is usually
