above, the Auto resource media type has no quotes around it, but the VXA
resource's media type does. An oversight on my part, surely, but does it make
any difference? Bacula certainly never complains about a syntax error.

Does the OS -- and, by extension, Bacula -- associate the device names with the
SCSI ID number? E.g., if the tape drive is ID 0, it will be /dev/st0, and if
a-test:9103 ...

I can see tape activity pretty much right away on full
backup jobs, but my boss wonders about this.

OK, I complained too soon. A standard re-boot now works. At least once.
It's still weird, but right now it's working. This is probably the
result of using a retired desktop workstation as a test bed.

means that Bacula will continue to write to a volume that is already flagged as "recycle" until it is full, and only then will it actually recycle and purge that volume. Will Bacula not purge and recycle a volume before it is full?

OK, the full backup finished successfully on the "Internal" RakPak drive,
indicating that at least it will not fail when using the external port/channel
on this "new" 2940UW. I will attempt a similar feat on the "Left" (right)
RakPak drive. Film at 11:00.

We have Bacula on RH 9 with an internal VXA-1 drive attached to an Adaptec
2940UW and an external RakPak (2 VXA-1 drives) that had been attached to the
external port/channel on the same adapter.
Configured in this way, Bacula would recognize all three drives, but we
encountered a peculiar probl

I am attempting to use Mario Wolff's shell script to get Bacula to span tapes
on two drives. His script is in this list's archives, Jan. 28 of this year.

Latest installment in the ongoing saga of Bacula on the Mason County
(Washington) network.
For reasons that quite escape me, Bacula began having trouble with tape drives.
The typical error when I would try to mount a tape on a drive that had
previously had no problems at all was that it f
OK. After reading the comments in the multitape-changer script in greater
detail, I made this change to the bacula-sd.conf:
Changer Command = "/etc/bacula/scripts/multitape-changer /dev/null load 1
/dev/nst1 0"
One more item that I overlooked in last msg.
The multitape-changer script has a line referring to the label directory
(/etc/bacula/tapelabel). I created this directory, but I don't know what to put
there. It may be important, since the script referes to label files a short way
down from there.
Thanks to all for the tips on spanning tapes/drives. I have attempted to
implement Mario Wolff's solution (archives, Jan. 28 & 29). Bacula loads, but
can't recognize the multitape drive. Here are the critical sections:
