Thanks Dennis,
I also started using cheap camper's headlamps for night and stopped using my
Q-beam. It is amazing how well a small LED light can reflect off of markers in
the dark. I keep at least three of these things aboard, all small, cheap but

I selected AGMs because they don't release gas and are supposed to still work
on their sides. Mine are located under the aft bunk aligned port to starb.
Expensive but tough and reliable, have lasted 10 years for me.

On our deck the balsa core is 3/4" thick, so a small chisel worked best to
remove 1/4" of core around the hole. Just worked on a smaller panel where the
core is only 1/4" thick. I put the pointy end of a 20 penny nail in a drill
chuck, bent the headed end over to a 90 degree angle using visegrip

I found that clear mailing tape works well to cover the bottom of the hole.
Bend the end over to help removal later.
A shop vac for removing the core is essential.
West Systems has a nice booklet and videos that explain proper technigues.

An easier method is to trim your sails in 10 knots where you like them, then

25 years ago, my family had a big party with lobster for twenty people. To cook
all that lobster at one time, my father-in-law got all of his boat and camping

If it's not, drop the rudder. Once you have the rudder out, you can drill out
the fiberglass post and add zerk fittings for grease. I use a waterproof clear

For us in US, I believe the Coast Guard requires paper charts be on board?
I'm always worried if I get boarded, they might not accept my 1986 chartkits.
Has that changed?
