You are right. The owners manual states the M4-30 is 25Hp @ 3600 RPM. 
Transmission has a 2:1 reduction.

I could be wrong... Ask my wife, but I think an M430 is 25 HP even though the 
model number would make you think it was 30.

A 30 HP diesel is HUGE for a 29 foot boat. 

An A4 powered 29 would have the 1:1 tranny, so depending on the prop you would 
have between about 15 and 25 HP available.

That's a lot of engine for a 29ft boat. The A-4 only put out About 18hp at the 
RPM that it probably generated pushing your boat. 





My yanmar 2gm20f seems to have more power than my A-4 did
