Un-patched kernel works! I have just installed Guilherme's kernel from
http://rookery.ubuntu.com/~kyle/kernels/salgado/2007-04-25/ and the
problem went away. Rafael (the patch author) may have been mistaken in
thinking that it cannot affect shutdown..

Here's a x86 2.6.20-15-generic feisty kernel which should fix this bug. I just

The patch author (Rafael J. Wysocki) reports that doing a
# echo shutdown > /sys/power/disk
before suspending should fix the problem, but my /etc/acpi/hibernate.sh
already does that and I only get sound after resuming with that patch
reverted.

I've reported it on the linux-acpi mailing list [1] and to the patch's

Yes, reverting the change in kernel/power/main.c introduced with commit
9185cfa92507d07ac787bc73d06c4eec7239 seems to fix this. If I
understand this correctly, switching off using "platform mode" instead
of "shutdown" does not work correctly at least on my Thinkpad T60. Maybe
