I'd like to share the results of the trials to solve this problem on my Ubuntu Feisty 2.6.20-16-generic, running on my HP nx8220 Laptop. I have the same problem, no sound after hibernate. A soft restart solves the problem though, no battery unplug needed, but still annoying. Changing HIBERNATE_MODE=platform did not help. Then I installed the patch ( http://rookery.ubuntu.com/~kyle/kernels/salgado/2007-04-25/ ) without reverting the change on HIBERNATE_MODE. Did not help. Then I changed HIBERNATE_MODE back to shutdown. It did not help either.
I actually want to deinstall this kernel patch, is there a way to do that? Because after installing it, error messages flow on my screen during the hibernation process, saying something about semaphores ( I cant read well, they flow very fast) The hibernation completes successfully though. But I am worried about the error messages. BTW, my HP does not wake up after suspend (suspend to RAM), but I think that's another issue.
