I had no sound after hibernating my Feisty Thinkpad R51. Reboot, and cold start didn't fix the problem (I didn't try removing the battery, however).
The kernel at http://rookery.ubuntu.com/~kyle/kernels/salgado/2007-04-25/ fixes the problem (after pressing the volume up key). This is a very serious bug - hopefully the problematic patch can get reverted in the official Feisty kernel soon.
