Sorry but I accidently posted the following to a duplicate: I can also confirm this on my T42p running feisty. Only powerdown does help. When I reboot into Feisty or Windows I still have no sound.
FWIW today I noticed something strange: When I plug in/out the AC the computer does a beep. While the beep is played (ca 1 sec) the sound works. I hope this could give someone a clue of what is happening.
