Also, make sure both devices are on current versions of their respective OS.
You say you are using Voice Dream Writer on your iPhone, and I assume Text Edit
on your Mac. Neither should be a problem

Why not just create a folder in iCloud, and access the folder on your iPhone
using the Files app.
Probably would be a lot simpler than fooling with Dropbox.
