Having had my iPhone 15 plus a short time, it did take me a while.
First I don't need to put my face that close. Second, if it is dark,
I turn lights on. Third, the simple act of unlocking the phone is enough.
Perhaps redoing Face ID may help, just hold the phone a foot or so away.

Ambivalent? Well yes and no.

Hello all,
I'm not sure if I can phrase my issue correctly, but here goes:
I'm finding that using Face ID is much more tricky than I thought it would
be. Sometimes, when I unlock my phone, it'll recognize my face, and the
phone unlocks nicely as expected. However, many times, even though I bring
the phone right up to my face at the right angle and distance, the phone
does not unlock and VO says "try again". The only way I can get it to unlock
is using my pass code. Raise to wake was enabled by default, but I disabled
it in hopes that might correct the issue, but it hasn't. Also, require
attention was also disabled the way VO made that adjustment. I'm beginning
to wonder if perhaps my front camera is defective or something, but before I
assume anything, here's my question:
What is the exact sequence of events to unlock using face ID? With raise to
wake disabled, is a simple tap on the screen enough to wake it up and
trigger the camera to look at my face? Or, instead of tapping the screen,
should I swipe up instead? I do get haptic feedback, and maybe that means
something. Also, VO sometimes says Face ID, sometimes it doesn't. Does that
Face ID announcement mean anything?
I sure hope this is all making sense. Thanks so much for any thoughts.
