Hi Pete, Here is what I do. With the phone positioned in front of my face, probably about six or 7 inches away from my face,I push the right side button to wake up the phone. I then wait until haptic feedback tells me that the phone has been unlocked. Then I flick up from the bottom with my finger to open the phone. It works pretty reliably for me, except sometimes in conditions where I’m in very bright sunlight, which shouldn’t be too much of an issue for you, since you’re in Portland. 😊 I find that that works quite well. The one problem that sometimes does occur, though, is if your phone wakes up accidentally enough times, you have to enter your passcode. So, for example, sometimes when I’m picking up my phone and carrying it somewhere it will wake up, even though I don’t wanted to. I’ve not found a way to make that stop. If that happens I think more than three times, the next time I go to open my phone I have to enter pass code. I hope this helps.
