Try taking off those Groucho Marx glasses and nose. Just kidding. When unlocking the phone with FaceID, try directing your face at the top center of the iPhone’s screen, near the earpiece speaker, because this is where the FaceID sensor is located. See if attention awareness is disabled. If it is, you might try turning it on. If it is on, try turning it off. If this doesn’t help, I would try redoing the FaceID setup.
