I had a straight guard w/o extensions. I went to use an angled guard
and found out that I had 1 inch diameter tube and the new stuff is 1
1/8, so I had to buy new feet too. The pod was about $500. Hope you
can re-use what you have.

If spending 10% of your boat's value gains you 10% + more sailing time and 100%
more confidence in limited visibility then it is a good investment.
We have an older Raymarine radar/chartplotter comb
Overboard? Not for me to say. I've been in terrible fog in NE on
powerboats. Not fun. You can stay at the dock when there is fog, but
when you are out and the fog rolls in there isn't any way to avoid it.
I'd consider AIS as an option but it won't show most pleasure boats.

I was part of a Transpac charter back in 1985. We chartered a 52' custom light
displacement fairly new boat. Our race motto was "Drive it like its rented".
The 85 Transpac was a lighter air year and we used the boat's ½ oz

run in 10 kts true wind is at an angle of 148 degrees, at 12 kts it is at
162 degrees, at 16 kts it is at 173 degrees and at 20 kts it is 174 degrees.
