Bug#291734: gthumb: Can't send images to trashcan across partitions
Package: gthumb Version: 3:2.6.2-1 Severity: minor Gthumb can't send images to the trashcan if the former and the latter are in different partitions. I guess it doesn't make a lot of sense to copy the image across partitions to circumvent the fact that a rename will fail, but at least telling the user why would be better than just saying it can't be done (that's the current behavior). Of course, this is just my opinion and maybe a real user doesn't care why it won't work for some images :) Windows seems to have a Trashcan per partition so this problem only arises on read-only media and --I think-- network mounts. Package: easytag Version: 1.99.3-1 Severity: minor -BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE- Hash: SHA1 The tab order for the widgets in the ID3 label editor is, in my opinion, incorrect, as it takes you first to the "apply to all selected files" checkbox first rather than the associated field. Bug#341187: Acknowledgement (most: RegExp support not compiled in)
I guess I was too eager. Enabling RegExp support is probably not a good idea, as it seems to be a bit broken. On the happy side of events, I'm halfway done fixing RegExp searches, so that they also work with UTF-8 and formatted text. Soon non-RegExp searches will be obsolete, unless somebody steps up and fixes them (I won't), as they are broken both with UTF-8 and formatted text. I guess I'll be done fixing the other half (backward searches) in the next couple days. Running memcheck directly gives the same error, and the strace output is just the execve line. Note that I'm using the 1GB highmem patch that allows computers with up to 1GB of RAM to access it as lowmem instead of using the slower highmem code in the kernel. The previous Valgrind version didn't work with this patch, but at least it gave some form of (not very human-readable) error message. In this regard, this version has a regression. UTF-8 enabled Most, with working (and enabled by default during build) UTF-8 compliant RegExp searches. Check it out while it's hot. I've tested all I could, including forward and backward searches. Note that non-RegExp searches should not be more broken than before, as I tried to avoid disturbing them. However, they didn't work with UTF-8 or formatted text. I don't think this is a problem, as the user can't switch RegExp searches off in run-time. Most could use some improvement in general, for instance, to allow backward searches to happen from the end of the buffer, and not just from the beginning of the screen at the end of the buffer. I suggest we get this tested first, and then move onto addressing the remaining issues. By the way, you might want to merge this bug with bug #341187. I think I over simplified that one. It should be the only case, though, note that SLutf8_skip_char*s* is only being called from forward_columns; the rest of the calls to SLutf8_skip_char are integrated in the loops so that single-byte characters remain handled exactly as before. I'll get back to you with a patch on top of most 4.10.2-2 soon, probably tonight. If you can find more pathologic cases, please send me a case to test. For example, the patch to buffer.c:forward_columns does > not appear to properly handle tab characters, embedded backspaces, > etc. Such backspaces are used by manpages to simulate an overstrike, > underline, etc, e.g., The attached patch fixes this case, plus other minor glitches with multi-byte characters. There is only one important glitch that I haven't been able to fix, and seems like a bug in Slang or Gnome-Terminal. The attached file most-test-long is displayed as expected, but some of the characters in most-test-long-fmt wrap to the second line of the buffer. This seems to be an artifact of formatting. As you'll see if you scroll the buffer to the right, the few bold and underlined characters are sometimes displayed with different spacing around them than in the plain version of the document. I've verified with the code below that most_analyse_line extracts at most 80 columns (for my terminal) worth of text. However, the fact that the terminal adds extra spacing when formatting is applied, causes the output to wrap. len = most_analyse_line(beg, end, line, attr); p = line; for (i = 0; i < strlen(attr); i++) { SLwchar_Type wc; p = SLutf8_decode(p, line + line_len, &wc, NULL); if (p) wc_len += SLwchar_wcwidth(wc); } assert(wc_len <= SLtt_Screen_Cols); Cheers, -- Javier Kohen <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> ICQ: blashyrkh #2361802 Jabber: [EMAIL PROTECTED] aáŴÓХथሰਗ਼בּホビХथሰਗ਼בּホビ aáŴÓХथሰਗ਼בּホビХथሰਗ਼בּホビ aáŴÓХथሰਗ਼בּホビХथሰਗ਼בּホビ aáŴÓХथሰਗ਼בּホビХथሰਗ਼בּホビ aáŴÓХथሰਗ਼בּホビХथሰਗ਼בּホビ aáŴÓХथሰਗ਼בּホビХथሰਗ਼בּホビ aáホホビ_ビ_Хथሰਗ਼בּホビ aáŴÓХथሰਗ਼בּホビХथሰਗ਼בּホビ aáŴÓХथሰਗ਼בּホビХथሰਗ਼בּホビ aáŴÓХथሰਗ਼בּホビХथሰਗ਼בּホビ aáŴÓХथሰਗ਼בּホビХथሰਗ਼בּホビ aáŴÓХथሰਗ਼בּホビХथሰਗ਼בּホビ Sólo en most-4.10.2: config.log Sólo en most-4.10.2: config.status diff -ur most-4.10.2-2.debian-orig/debian/changelog most-4.10.2/debian/changelog --- most-4.10.2-2.debian-orig/debian/changelog 2005-12-05 21:51:17.0 -0300 +++ most-4.10.2/debian/changelog 2005-12-06 04:57:47.0 -0300 @@ -1,3 +1,10 @@ +most (4.10.2-2.0.1) unstable; urgency=low + + * Fixed minor glitches when displaying multi-byte characters. + * Fixed wrapped mode when using formatted output. + + -- Javier Kohen <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Tue, 6 Dec 2005 04:57:01 -0300 + most (4.10.2-2) unstable; urgency=low * Patch from Javier Kohen to rework (and fix) RegExp searches, so they now Sólo en most-4.10.2: Makefile diff -ur most-4.10.2-2.debian-orig/src/buffer.c most-4.10.2/src/buffer.c --- most-4.10.2-2.debian-orig/src/buffer.c 2005-12-05 21:51:17.0 -0300 +++ most-4.10.2/src/buffer.c 2005-12-06 04:48:06.0 -0300 @@ -62,11 +62,13 @@ if (*pos == '\n') { pos--; /* Skip back the new-line. */ - while ((pos > Most_Beg) - && (*pos != '\n')) - pos = SLutf8_bskip_char(Most_Beg, pos); + /* This block is UTF-8 safe, because it only scans the + buffer for a new-line, and doesn't count + characters. */ + while ((pos > Most_Beg) && (*pos != '\n')) + pos--; - if (*pos != '\n') return pos; + if (*pos != '\n') return Most_Beg; /* from here on *pos == '\n' */ if (pos + 1 != cpos) return pos + 1; @@ -77,9 +79,9 @@ if (*pos != '\n') { - while ((pos > Most_Beg) - && (*pos != '\n')) - pos = SLutf8_bskip_char(Most_Beg, pos); + /* This block is UTF-8 safe. Bug#343826: easytag: Cannot save some characters into ID3v2 tag
Package: easytag Version: 1.99.10-1 Severity: normal -BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE- Hash: SHA1 I just hit a bug with some Czech songs. For instance, character (composed with 'y) cannot be saved properly by EasyTAG when using the recommended encoding setting (ISO-8859-1, or UNICODE fallback). The character shows up in the ID3v2 tag as FFFD (invalid UTF-16 sequence). This might be related to bugs #281255 and #246856, but I'm not sure. There is some background information there. I guess that the cause behind the bug is that Debian still lacks an UTF-8-clean libid3, as mentioned elsewhere by Jerome and me. Bug#345822: libgtk2.0-0: .emacs.desktop shows up as "No Name" in file dialog
Package: libgtk2.0-0 Version: 2.8.9-2 Severity: normal -BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE- Hash: SHA1 GTK+'s open file dialog shows any file named .emacs.desktop as "No Name" (or its localized equivalent). To reproduce: $ touch .emacs.desktop $ eog Go to "Open" and set the extension filter to "All Files." You'll see an entry for "No Name." This is probably the weirdest bug I've come across lately. Even in my home directory, where I have more than a hundred "hidden" files, .emacs.desktop is the only one that triggers this bug. Note that it's not the only file with two dots in that directory (just thought it could matter). Bug#337100: xscreensaver: Fails to power off laptop screen
Package: xscreensaver Version: 4.23-1 Severity: normal -BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE- Hash: SHA1 My desktop computer is a laptop with an integrated panel and an external CRT monitor. The video card is an ATI Radeon 9600 running in dual-head mode (two screens, non-Xinerama). Since version 4.23 of Xscreensaver a bug has been fixed that prevented Xscreensaver from kicking in after the scheduled timeout. Now it does kick in, but although the CRT goes off, the laptop's screen remains on. Running "xset dpms force off" from an xterm effectively turns off the laptop's panel, so I believe the bug lies in Xscreensaver. My .xscreensaver configuration, as generated by xscreensaver-demo, has the following entries: dpmsEnabled:True dpmsStandby:0:00:00 dpmsSuspend:0:00:00 dpmsOff:0:10:00 The timeouts used to be 0:10:00, 20 and 30, but that didn't work either. Bug#310444: tsclient: No feedback while attempting connection
Package: tsclient Version: 0.132-6 Severity: wishlist -BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE- Hash: SHA1 It would be desirable if tsclient gave some sort of feedback while attempting a connection. As it is now, if the server is unresponsive it could go for seconds with no window being shown; the user doesn't know if the program crashed or what's going on. If this sort of feedback is not possible because the helper apps (rdesktop, vnc, etc.) don't provide enough information, then at least a small window/dialog should be kept visible to inform the user that a subprogram has been spawned (and maybe even an option to kill the child). You're right, I just noticed that the package added the fglrx-kernel-src definition for module-assistant. I thought it came in m-a's package, but it came from Flavio Stanchina's repository. However, the plex86-kernel-src definition, which does come with m-a, should have the same problem. Should I report a bug to fglrx-kernel-src's upstream to rename it to -kernel-source, or will the fix I posted in my other mail be added to fglrx? After all, this is a regression, as it used to work a few versions ago with the same version of the module. Bug#288514: xfree86-driver-synaptics: Problems with 64-bit kernel and 32-bit userland
Hi, Unfortunately I lost my old filesystem, so I upgraded fully to Debian AMD64. I no longer have a system capable of reproducing this bug nor enough hard disk to install one. I can't provide the extra information, sorry. On the good side, the driver worked straight away in the pure64 and gcc-3.4 distributions. I emphasize that I'm not running any 64-bit code in userland at the moment. Ok, it's more clear now. I don't see it in buildd yet. It's unofficial, but it builds from the same sources. No patches are being applied to the sources on what we call 'pure64.' Not even to the debian/control file. We are instructed to file bug reports against the packages when they should build on amd64 but, for some reason, are restricted to i386 (or others). For your information, amd64 will become official after Sarge is released, thus you'd have to add it to the list of supported architectures sooner or later. Bug#299580: menu-xdg: Entries don't show up in GNOME panel 2.8.3-1
Package: menu-xdg Version: 0.2 Severity: normal -BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE- Hash: SHA1 I just upgraded GNOME panel to 2.8.3 and found a mention to menu-xdg. I installed this package hoping that it would populate the GNOME menu with the Debian applications, but I get nothing like that. My locale is es_AR.UTF-8 in case it matters. I also tried making /etc/menu-methods/gnome-vfolder-user executable, but nothing seemed to change. Update-menus -v shows no errors and the methods installed by this package are being recognized. Also can you provide > the directory you're running dpkg-deb on, and the exact arguments > supplied to it. I'm afraid I can't provide the directory because it's too big; it's the build of upstream's kernel 2.6.12 with Con Kolivas patch release #0 applied. The command line is "dpkg-deb --build debian/tmp-image .." and is executed from /usr/src/linux. On the other hand, I must apologize because I unknowingly exaggerated my last report. This time I was more patient and let dpkg-deb run longer. After 6 and a half minutes it finished (compared to 15 seconds when running with -z3). Could this be a change in default behavior among version 1.12.x and 1.13.x that kernel-package is unaware of, or maybe a change in kernel-package from version 8.x to 9.0 that for some reason removed the -z3 switch? Thanks for your input. -- Javier Kohen <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> ICQ: blashyrkh #2361802 Jabber: [EMAIL PROTECTED] signature.asc Description: This is a digitally signed message part

Bug#211217: most: Impossible to read UTF-8 man pages
Package: most Version: 4.9.5-1 Followup-For: Bug #211217 Since most is unable to show UTF-8 (Unicode?) characters and most man pages contain apostrophes (') (which man-db seems to translate into the properly Unicode equivalent), it's impossible to read man pages as big portions of the text are left out. That's because not only leaves most those characters out, but also parts of the text behind them. For instance, run 'man rsync' after setting the en_US.UTF-8 locale (to make sure you get the English version), look for the description of the sparse switch and notice that it's not readable. Now try with the regular en_US or C locales, you'll see that it's perfectly readable, but that the apostrophes are now shown as '. More can handle the UTF-8 case properly, so it's not a problem in the terminal. In short, as a workaround, users can read man pages in Latin-1. -- System Information: Debian Release: testing/unstable APT prefers unstable APT policy: (500, 'unstable') Architecture: i386 (i686) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/bash Kernel: Linux 2.6.12-ck3 Locale: LANG=es_AR.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=es_AR.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Versions of packages most depends on: ii libc6 2.3.2.ds1-22 GNU C Library: Shared libraries an ii slang1a-utf81.4.9dbs-8 The S-Lang programming library wit most recommends no packages. -- no debconf information -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of "unsubscribe". Bug#317068: rdesktop: Steals keyboard
Package: rdesktop Version: 1.4.1-1 Severity: normal -BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE- Hash: SHA1 RDesktop seems to grab the keyboard in a weird way while it's running. On one hand, it grabs alt-tab before the window manager which is useful, but on the other hand, it's a bit agressive. If the connection is lagging or gets disconnected (for some reason the window is not always closed), you lose all ability to use the keyboard. The only way I found to restore the keyboard to normal in this case is to kill rdesktop or wait until the connection gets back to normal (only if it wasn't lost, but severely lagged). I expect that a lost connection or a slow network won't prevent me from typing in my local system once I take the focus away from rdesktop. - -- System Information: Debian Release: testing/unstable APT prefers unstable APT policy: (500, 'unstable') Architecture: amd64 (x86_64) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/bash Kernel: Linux 2.6.12-ck2 Locale: LANG=es_AR.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=es_AR.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Versions of packages rdesktop depends on: ii libc62.3.2.ds1-21GNU C Library: Shared libraries an ii libssl0.9.7 0.9.7g-1SSL shared libraries ii libx11-6 4.3.0.dfsg.1-13 X Window System protocol client li ii xlibs4.3.0.dfsg.1-13 X Keyboard Extension (XKB) configu rdesktop recommends no packages. - -- no debconf information -BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE- Version: GnuPG v1.4.1 (GNU/Linux) iD8DBQFCyxvC823633cP2P8RAmolAJ9VDMwkei8vWyxqHodgHb5CV6fplgCeKTI1 7sI6JH/0aKwhki56jDsKgls= =70Wo -END PGP SIGNATURE- -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of "unsubscribe". Bug#334941: menu-xdg: No more applications
Package: menu-xdg Version: 0.2.1 -BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE- Hash: SHA1 I just upgraded from menu-xdg 0.2.0, killall gnome-panel and now I don't have any entries in the GNOME applications menu. I see it appear, but then it flickers away. The other menus works fine. I had applied the workaround for version 0.2.0 that was in the Debian or Ubuntu BTS (sorry, I don't remember, it was a long time ago), this might have interacted badly with the fix. I restarted "networking" and "dnsmasq" after installing the deb and now jugle.net resolves to the correct address. Although I can't answer that, is it possible that you are in contact with somebody upstream?
