Udev 0.61 changed the internal rule storage format, quoting their release notes:
We changed the internal rule storage format. Our large rule files took
2 MB of RAM, with the change we are down to 99kB.

If the device-node has been created with default name and no symlink or
options are to remenber, it is not longer stored in the udevdb. HAL will
need to be updated to work correctly with that change.

Since the upgrade I no longer see the partitions of my external hard disk (USB)
in HAL. The drive itself appears, and it works fine with the rest of the
system, but I miss the drive's UDI which I use in a back-up script to be able
to find the drive regardless of other changes in the system.
