Entering an UTF-8 string with multi-byte characters causes the cursor to
move to the right one extra space per extra byte beyond the first. In
other words, typing 'ÃÃÃ' leaves the cursor three columns after the last
'Ã'. This can be reproduced, for instance, in the search input field;
note that the search still works as expected.
