I'm afraid I can't provide the directory because it's too big; it's the build of upstream's kernel 2.6.12 with Con Kolivas patch release #0 applied. The command line is "dpkg-deb --build debian/tmp-image .." and is executed from /usr/src/linux. On the other hand, I must apologize because I unknowingly exaggerated my last report. This time I was more patient and let dpkg-deb run longer. After 6 and a half minutes it finished (compared to 15 seconds when running with -z3). Could this be a change in default behavior among version 1.12.x and 1.13.x that kernel-package is unaware of, or maybe a change in kernel-package from version 8.x to 9.0 that for some reason removed the -z3 switch?
