The problem is an incompatibility between Xvnc 4.x and the xdm supplied
with Solaris 8/9 (maybe 10 also). The solution that worked for me was to
build X11R6 V4.3.0 from source and use its xdm.

fixes Xvnc 4.1.1 and now dtlogin launches as it should, even on my
Solaris 2.6 systems. I have been using a font server so that issue I

I have two routers which I have port forwarded to 5900, 5800 and 5500 to my
personal computers IP address. I can use the VNC viewer internally on the
LAN but can't get it from the outside internet.
I'm using Windows XP Pro service pack 2
I have a Quest router (2700), then a Linksys router.
I have a remote Linix computer setup with free realvnc 4.1.2 server to be
started via -inetd. I start the free vncviewer 4.1.2 on my client system and
VNC comes up on the remote and all works great. I want to write a script to
drive all this and start some applications etc and what I need to know
lear answer on what to do. I am not a C programmer.
Would someone have a step-by-step fix for this?

1) What IPs are you using? Are you trying to use the one the typical

I can ping 192.168.0.100 (IP address of laptop at home) but I cannot connect to it
through the VNC Viewer
The VNC Server is running on the laptop and accepts socket connections.
The laptop is behind a web router (with a firewall), but I have opened a port for
remote router control, etc.

a utility that can handle this for me? Can anyone point me to a
reference for how to do this step by step?
It seems I can add a "REG_SZ string" but I have no idea what that means.

Hello, I was just wondering if anybody knew how I could set up my RH9 Linux so
I get the actual desktop of whatever user is logged in instead of getting the
X-terminal when I connect using VNC.

Somebody mentioned once that there is some place I can go on the web where my open
ports can be detected? Specifically it can detect if VNC can see any open ports to
connect to.
