A guess:

You need your friend to run the following while sitting at his computer:

http://whatismyipaddress.com

Then have him read the number to you.

Then type that number into your VNC Viewer and attempt to connect.

A Port may be required, not sure about that one.

hi, i just downloaded the vnc program and it did work within my own network, 
but heres the problem. firstly, i am in a router and i would like to view a 
remote server my friend is hosting up but he too has a router which is the 
same as mine but different isp provider. for instance, i would put in 
192.168.2.xxx and it would not locate it. i am guessing is that the prgram 
is looking within my own router. but my friend has the exact same 
192.168.2.xxx. tell me in simple form how to connect to his computer, i am 
not a techie so pls be very simple in explaining the solution. the router is 
a SMC Barricade Broadband Router. Both of us has it.
