Generally that's true. As a percentage the speed difference between a 2.53 Ghz and a 2.6 is only 3% and 2.53 to 2.8 is only 10%. But if you run out of memory the Mac will start swapping chunks of least used memory space to disk to free up more. That swap process can turn your machine to sludge
