HI Dane, I don't know of any way to tell itunes a particular file is a podcast, but you can either declare it an audiobook or check the options to have it save your place and be skipped when you shuffle. You get to all these options by focusing on the file, pressing Command-I, and going to the Options tab. There's a media kind menu where you can set it as an audiobook; the other options are check boxes.
