Hi, I updated my Nano recently and did not lose speech, so I don't think the update necessarily causes this. I don't see any difference between the previous and current firmware; it's supposed to be mostly bug fixes, I think.
I'm really impressed with the accessibility folks so far. I've sent several e-mails, and they have all been answered personally and thoughtfully. Sorry this experience wasn't as good.
