Are eps files the only ones which can viewed as a preview on the screen?

Clearly nothing wrong with spellcheck just my stupidity in assigning quote
marks in Latex.
While two open single quotes are needed - ie `` - the use of " is valid for
closing quotes. I foolishly thought that the same must apply and was using two
closing quotes - ie ' ' without the space.

This can be done using the package xcolor. It envokes the colortbl package
too. I will send you the docs in a private email as the package is fairly
powerful giving you a lot of control over colors used.
Basically
In the preamble put usepackage[table]{xcolor}
then at before the
er is already at 2 and the number 3 is assigned.
Sorry that is long winded but it makes sense if you read it slowly!
Anyway the work around. At the end of each table put in ERT
\addtocounter{table}{-1}
