I don't necessarily know what I'm talking about in the aviation area, but I
do home-shop machining as a hobby and have faced things like this before.
When I have a hole that has buggered or pulled-out threads, I drill it out
to a larger size, tap it and install a bolt or a piece of threaded rod

Larry,
The sender units on my KR-2 wing tanks have a circular bolt pattern, but the
5 screws are offset slightly so that there is only one orientation for the
sender. Floats are fussy about that.
I made a circular aluminum ring with the same pattern required for each
sender plate. Installed f

The tang is driven in first with the installation tool and would be on the

The tang on the helicoil is used to insert it using the special tool with the
notch in the kit.

I would simply go with the Heli-Coils. They work OK,
Update on fuel leak fix. I did a test today on the Poly-Nuts and they
are not up to the task. Placed a scrap piece of aluminum in the vise
and drilled three holes. Installed Poly-Nuts with puller, then snugged
them down a bit more with wrench. They might tighten up enough to seal

Keensert looks like an improved helicoil. I'm not sure they will work
all that well in 1/8" aluminum. The video shows one being installed in

How about going to a slightly larger metric size and retapping that hole.
That was one of the first things that crossed my mind but I never

Ok so let me see if I can explain the fix I would use. I'll call them C plates
for lack of a better name. Make a round plate that is 1/4 inch larger and 1/4
smaller than the radius. Mark and drill matching holes and tap them for your
screws. Cut the plate in half and insert each in the tan
Just a thought. Drill for a ankle nut. Rivet in place.
Fill the whole, thread, top of anchor nut with urethane foam?? Or similar.
Then use fuel proof resin on the inside over the Anchor nut area to seal. Then
the bolt with screw through the foam. Should work ok. This was a thought of
mine if m
