Update on my fuel leak fix.  My fuel sender gasket started leaking after 15 years so I ordered new gaskets.  I'm assuming that was the source of the leak as all fittings looked dry.  I removed the probe (7 feet long) and installed the new gasket.  In tightening down the five bolts one did not tighten.  D*#n !!!!, now what?  See photo of mounting plate.

I removed the sender unit and sure enough, the threads came out as a spiral tale on the end of one bolt.  Thats just GREAT !!! The mounting plate is only 1/8" thick.  How do I get new threads on that.  Enlarge to 1/4"?  No, then I'd have to drill the holes through the sender to 1/4" and I don't like that idea.  Riv-nuts? I don't like the thick head on the gasket side as it may not seal.  A bit of research turned up "KLIK POLY-NUTS.  Much thinner head.  Local auto parts store had them so I picked up a pack of 50 for $14.  I measured the head thickness and it turns out they are .020 max with some a bit thinner.   Gasket should seal easily over that.  I found a puller at MENARDS for $15 that has 5 different thread size pullers.  I'll test one or two on a scrap piece before I attack the wing.  Here is a statement form the supplier site. "Klik Poly-Nuts provide a nearly flush appearance and once in place, the internal threads are ready for a screw or bolt."  If this works out I'll probably do all five holes.  Here is one supplier with lots of good info. http://www.duncanbolt.com/suppliers/marson/additional-products/klik-poly-nuts

I got mine from NAPA auto store.

These look like a great answer to adding threads to sheet metal, instrument panel, and the like.  Much thinner head than RIV-NUTS. I think they are available in aluminum or steel, not sure.  I went with steel as that was available  without ordering.

I'll give an update when I see how they work.

In this case, my results may vary..........
