The  "cross section view" on the site is a bit misleading.  After I figured out the different heads on the tool are left hand threads and installed the correct head I pulled one of the Poly-nuts without it inserted in any material and it does look like the head will be flush with the top surface.  The "cross section view"  makes it look like there is extra material from the insert that pulls up above the surface.  That's the lighter part of the drawing that looks like a forward C and backward C in the material.

I'll give an update when I actually use the tool and inserts.
