My tank is built in to the wing and actually contributes a bit to the wing structure,  in no way removable.  The scab you see in the photo on the 48" rib is where I cut the tank open to fix a leak 15 years ago.  I'll only cut in to the tank as a last, last resort and then only after three day of sobbing.  This hill isn't really that high to climb it's just a matter of picking the fix and then doing it.
