Initial mail was generated by reportbug. I have repeatedly reproduced this
bug with 2.9 installed, and even found a workaround for X clients (a call to
XOpenDisplay() and keeping the display open during the lifetime of the
sess
xterm crashes Xorg.
I presume that SDL starts some auxiliary X connection that when it's closed,
causes the crash.
Additionally, this bug is at least several months old over here.

When starting Xserver I get message from xkbcompile:

In fact, the same program compiled under windows2000 with proper 3dlabs driver
has better performances (it's a simple wireframe cube with a lot of point
inside plotted using OpenGL.

I also ran into this problem, here are some more details:
I can confirm the problem persists in the 4.2.1 packages, but with a different
font than Aleksandra (also I'm using "radeon" driver whereas she uses "nv").
