Dennis et al, With regard to a 2 blade max prop, worst case,if the prop stops with the blades horizontal,they will be dragged thru the water at whatever the shaft angle is.therefore the prop must be oriented vertically. So unload the locker and mark that coupling!!! -Ori

Neutral is not a good idea! The prop will free wheel which will create drag and with many transmissions, the oil pump is driven from the input shaft. Thus you have a spinning shaft without lubrication. Hirth transmissions recommend reverse. I have done this for 13 years with a Hirth transmissio

I understand your concern about the transmission.  You probably shortened it's life by a day, each time you made that mistake.  I suggest you learn from that, don't look for symtoms, and just focus on better maintenance.  Like change the transmission fluid sooner.   Machinery loves fresh lubricant
