My MaxProp manual on page 9 says: "When the engine has stopped, if the shaft is still spinning engage the transmission in reverse to stop the freewheeling."

The prop will free wheel which will create drag and with many transmissions, the oil pump is driven from the input shaft. Thus you have a spinning shaft without lubrication. Hirth transmissions recommend reverse. I have done this for 13 years with a Hirth transmission and a Max-Prop with no problems.
