I recently purchased a 1985 C & C mark II. For the last two seasons I have battled a crack where the keel meets the hull. References to the “C & C smile” seem to be in reference to where the glass meets the metal which is much lower than previously described. Through research I am sadly coming to the conclusion that this has more to do with the keel sump and a major design/build flaw. Two different companies have attempted to fix but in both cases the repairs were cosmetic and failed miserably.
