I understand your concern about the transmission. You probably shortened it's life by a day, each time you made that mistake. I suggest you learn from that, don't look for symtoms, and just focus on better maintenance. Like change the transmission fluid sooner. Machinery loves fresh lubricant and changing it can add years of life.

We have covered this subject before. I thought that the "take-away" was that with feathering props it is necessary to put in gear ( reverse) in order to feather). Since there is no more turning force on the transmission caused by the prop, it is safe to leave it in reverse while sailing. This is what I do anyhow!
