Well,
I see that this is a lilypond issue the multiple score blocks are making
it crazy. Could there be a limit to the amount of multiple scores
allowed in one lilypond file?

Denemo's current development will implement a script to keep it in much tighter sync with lilypond. One of the long term goals is to integrate it with editors such as emacs/vim/jedit so that working in the gui will update the text and working in the text will update the gui. Anyone who feels the itch to come over and help in the development of denemo is most encouraged to do this. LilyPond Problem -- won't load
Hi! I used lilypond for a while a few months ago, loved it, and then simply took a break from composing. When I came back, lo and behold, projects that used to compile fine with lilypond didn't work. LilyPond didn't even load when I right-clicked and selected "Generate PDF". When I looked at running processes, it shows lilypond-windows as running, using 15MB or so of memory, but nothing happens that I can see. I upgraded, didn't fix it. Uninstalled and re-installed, didn't fix it. The examples that shipped with lilypond didn't compile to PDF either. Any ideas? Hi! I am using Lilypond 2.10.1 on Windows XP SP1. I exported a midi file from a program, and am trying to convert it to lilypond via the following command: midi2ly "C:\Documents and Settings\Aaron Morse\Desktop\Deep Peace.mid" And am getting the following error: midi.error: pymidi_parse: MThd expected Anyone know what that error means? There is an intrinsic difference between creating a type setting. Truthfully creation lend itself to paper and pencil best. Typesetting seems to work the best for me at least in a nongraphical format like lilypond. Truthfully once you know lilypond well enough and have a good text editor that you really learn. You should be able to configure it to turn lilypond into a much more intuitive composition tool. Re: Verses with Different Rhythms
Hmn, sorry to butt in, but with folk music very often the tune stays the same but each verse has slightly different rhythm. In finale we use parenthetical notes or a second voice on the same staff to represent the change of rhythm. That said we checked a number of song books and found that almost all the time only the first verse is notated and the rest of the words are put under each song. Is there any rule for this? Hi all, I am looking for a web based solution (editor) to access lilypond files the more userfriendly the better. I am building a web application based on Zope (read python) and need a way to let users of my project create lilypond files, edit them, correct them etc. This is all from a web application. Ideally I would like some python based editor that I can embed. I probably don't need all the functionalyity of emacs and vim because my application will send the files to lilypond or lilypon-book for pdf/dvi/ps/png generation. What is important is colorization and completion of common lilypond actions. This should be something that will be embedded in the webpage and not as a popup editor. (I don't want to call up vim or emacs- they may not have it on their system) I remember someone posting an editor which was a few windows that you click on a notes, clef etc and it writes the page. While this isn't really what I am thinking of it might be an idea. I can't remember what its called or a find a link to it. Whew I solved it.
It seems that when I previously used convert-ly it changed the version
number to 2.2.0 but didn't actually convert the file.
I removed the version line and added the original file version ran
convert-ly and now the file parses without the errors.

musicxml export has existed for quite some time in Finale. There is a convertor out there alreay written in Python by Guido. I am not sure it is up date. But I recall it works quite well I don't have the url right now but when I do I will post it or send it off list. lyrics general question
Hi all, I was wondering why lyrics aren't subdivided into measures to make it easier to keep track of what lyrics fit what notes? I have a feeling that there must be a reason, because this is a convention that holds true for many music notation systems, including Finale. Is there therefore a strong reason NOT to include measures in lyrics blocks, or is it just a convention? no pdf running lilypond
Hi all, I am using lilypond 2.2.6 and when I run lilypond on a score I get no parsing errors but it only produces a tex file even with a -p or -P flag. Am I doing something wrong? pizz and also midi
Hi all, Looking at the manual, I don't see a pizz. and arco command. Is this handeled by markup? Also how do I specify midi options beside an initial instrument name? I would like to add a patch change for pizz/arco as well as adding tempo changes in the score. I realize that lilypond isn't a midiprogram and the midi is just for auditioning my score, but it would be nice to be able to do this in either case. HI all, I was wondering how I would contruct a template in lilypond that uses no internal variables. So that I will have: A header block a score block and a lyrics block etc. only and not the notation and later a score block that calls the referenced parts. svg feta/unicode
I am trying to convert the feta font and add unicode encodings to them. The problem is that unicode doesn't have glyphs for many articulations and expressions but rather assumes combinations glyphs to make such glyphs as a prall etc. has anyone tried this before, or is there infact a feta font with unicode encodings? Sudden "cannot allocate memory" error
I'm having a bit of a panic. My Master's thesis is a modern edition of a collection of madrigals. It is typeset entirely using LaTeX and Lilypond. I have had no problems for a year building my thesis. I have made no changes whatsoever to my LaTeX box. I monitored the system while it was building (using "top") and I don't see any actual memory issues. Is there something else that could be causing this type of error? hebrew lyrics
Hi All I now have the ability to type in hebrew and english. I now need some idea how to add hebrew lyrics/titles etc. to lilypond notated songs. I also have ivrixtex installed as well, if that helps any. Any ideas would be welcome. Also, you should consider Heberew LyX (just download the latest version of
LyX), select the hebrew language, and configure the latex command to be
"elatex". LyX handles the BiDi stuff automatically.

two measures
Hi all, I am notating a song which has two measures repeated. Thanks I am just not sure where to tell lilypond to use babel or ivritex
etc.
When I add it to the start of the lyrics
with a doubled backslash as per lilypond I get the command in english in
the resulting dvi or ps.
\\hebalef
under the staff.
I was told to double the \\ and quote the foriegn language words when
using latex in lilypond.
I get no complaints if I double the \\ but no hebrew. I must be able to
tell Lilypond to use ivritex or bable etc when processing the latex???
At the beginning of the file it complains in the lyrics no hebrew???

stuck hebrew
Hi all, I made a wrapper file to process a lilypond file with hebrew lyrics. When I run lilypond-book mywrapper.lytex I get an error telling me to use etex instead of tex. I ran TEX=/usr/bin/etex lilypond-book mywrapper.lytex and I got the same error. What am I doing wrong or missing. I think I already posted the file.ly and mywrapper.lytex. Any ideas?? Hi Mats and everyone, I have been playing with trying to get lilypond-book to accepte etex instead of tex. I made a script file which will use etex instead of tex and added it to my path. I did this for root as well. when I type tex at a prompt I get etex. When I run lilypond-book with my wrapper file it tells me to use etex instead of tex How can I tell lilypond-book to load etex instead of tex??? hebrew lyrics
Hi all,
I moved up a level in my hebrew lyrics project.
I copied the cyrillic lyrics example and I changed the words to hebrew
words and the font to a hebrew font.
I got errors but I can't tell if it is related to the syntax of the
lilypond file.
Which I myself don't understand, or the fact that I am trying to add
hebrew??

Well, you are welcome, but I just copied it from a letter on cyrillic fonts. but if it helped I am happy. On the hebrew side I have a stickier problem. When I run my example through lilypond-book it treats all text as hebrew. I need a way to make sure that just the lyrics are processed as hebrew. Additionally. The use of hebrew itself is problematic: hebrew is right to left and english is left to right, but hebrew lyrics are left to right globally and right to left locally: As follows: this is english -> -> abc abc starts from the left <- <- hebrew is this cba cba starts from the right lyrics start from the left, but each syllable are read from the right. the problem I am having is how to get everything both the notation and the lyrics to start from the left!!! Think about it a second when I tell latex to use hebrew it makes everything go from right to left even the notation!!! I have dvi's with hebrew and the notation backwards Any thoughts??? I tried much of this but with limited results so far, it could be that
with some more experimenting I may succeed.
\r and \l withelatex are supposed to do that but in lyrics they so far
seem to be ignored...
I hope that once I understand how everything works I will be able to
come up with some additional steps,
and I will correct the wrapper file as well

Thanks Mats, I find that my problem falls into two lacks of knowledge: 1. Lilypond- I am just learning lilypond. I basically have used denemo to make my .ly file until a few weeks ago. This project needs advanced lilypond knowledge... 2. Hebrew support in linux and latex/tex. I just recently got hebrew up and running on my system. I rely on the ivrix discussion group for knowledge of hebrew tex/latex. Basically I fiddle till I get frustrated and then I write a letter to one of the two user groups ivrix or lilypond. Sometimes I write to the wrong list, sometimes I ask the wrong questions, so sometimes by the time I figure out something hasn't worked a few days have passed... In anycase I will try the tex file and see what I get. I must thank the list again for their help esp Mats and Ario because without you guys I wouldn't have gotten this far!! It turns out that Doug Asherman already fixed the mywrapper,
But now that I look I have a question, the lines\input{lilyponddefs.tex}
\input{titledefs.tex}
What exactly do they do??
The reason I ask is in the examples I have made for hebrew, there
appears a jibberish hebrew title, but myscore has no title. Is there a
dummy title generated with this???
If so I need to hack it to be in hebrew, or in the meantime turn it off
or have a way to switch them back and forth within the wrapper file.

I am now experimenting witht he /sethebrew /unsethebrew command in
elatex.
However I even before using /sethebrew I was getting the following

Hi all, I found my myserious titles: They are in fact lyrics lilypond puts lyrics above the staff I forgot. And here is what they are \hebalef it says is zulbgut in hebrew or is it \hebgimel?? In other words latex reads the ascii \hebalef and replaces each letter with a hebrew one. Sorry if I confused myself and everyone about the titles... Now it definetly means that it isn't reading \hebalef as a command to print a hebrew alef, certainly it just skips any typing I do in hebrew!!! Must I set the keyboard encoding somewhere??? hebrew lily lyrics
Whew, I finally narrowed things down a bit. I was getting error messeges and I didn't know from where, so I started over from scratch with a new score and deleting all the lilypond generated files. I added one \ to hebalef and I got errors so I added the two \\hebalef. no errors but no hebrew alef. I added "\\hebalef" and I got errors and no output. I tried \HeblatexRedefineL in the wrapper and it turned the music R to L. I tried \\HeblatexRedefineL in the lyrics and it also turned the music R to L??? I have a hunch that for \\hebalef I shouldn't change the font. I am guessing that is what turns the english "h" into a hebrew "yud" I need a command that will tell elatex that \\hebalef should become an alef Any help would be welcome. The change of subject unfortunetly comes from replying to letters which
doesn't automatically go back to the list and which may not have the
same header. And being senile I sorta forget the header name.

hebrew lyrics!!!!!!!!!
To all my wonderful helpers see the attached dvi. A note and a hebrew alef over it. I got it to work with the \unsethebrew in the mywrapper.lytex file. I had to make a new uncorrupted fromscratch.ly file, to make sure the lilypond source was clean. Then adding \unset hebrew did its trick. thnaks and now on to using real hebrew letters. Sorry, Here it is again. Just wondering if I can't get actual hebrew letters to work, or until I do is there a way to make a script that will search for a typed hebrew alef and turn it into \hebalef?? This would mean that in the meantime I could type lyrics and have them show up??? I however assume I will get regular hebrew to work... I need a clear piece of syntax for adding the actual hebrew to the
myscore file.
I wasted a lot of time with the
\\hebalef problem because I didn't have the "" in the right place.
So here is my file, you won't see a hebrew alef anyways so I used and x

lyrics entry help!!!-was hebrew lily
Hi all, I need to know which way to proceed and who can help me. right now I would need to manually add \\R to every syllable of lyrics I type. ugh Question which is more sensible: 1. A shell/perl/whaterver script to search a txt file with the hebrew lyrics and add the hebrew encoding then insert this all into the lyrics section of an already created lilypond file. 2. scheme hacking to make it possible to input hebrew and have lilypond insert the hebrew stuff. 3. Hi all and Amelie,
I have been using your script and it really works.
I have one question, when I want to add -- or ___ between lyrics they
don't show up in the final ps or pdf (see attached) notice to notes with
no lyrics that is because in the song there are a few places with a few
notes per one sylable.
I checked the mahyedid.out.29 and all the -- and __ had vanished???
What to do??
Also notice in the exampe that the lyrics in the first measure are not
aligned right.

With the source and I also would like a clearer understanding of how to
turn autobeaming off, I had a bit of trouble understanding the
documentation on this.
I am including pdf because most people don't have hebrew installed on
their system.
I still need to brush up on spacing a bit but I think you will get the

etf2ly wows
Hi all, I am experiencing some problems with etf2ly. When I convert from etf to ly the key changes??? Is there something I can do about this?? Either in Finale before I convert or in etf2ly?? Also is there a way to preserve the text. This is a bit more complicated because the original text is in hebrew. Hi all, What I am doing is not starting from scratch but converting etf2ly and searching and replacing the wrong notes with the right one. What would be the easiest is a script that transposes the key. ie. you input the new key and it automatically searches and replaces. Does such a script exist?? Hi, What I seem to get is that the conversion want to make all my files into c major. The rythem translates perfectly. But the notes not. I can give an example if anyone thinks it worth the time to play with etf2ly. In the mean time I convert and use search and replace to fix the note names. a script would be as I said much quicker. Hi all, I was wondering: 1. What helpers come with the vim for lilypond stuff. 2. How do I use the mode? so far all I get is the sytax highlighting. I am hoping for some help with bracket plus some short cuts to note entry and \grace -\mordent etc. Plus is there a way to have it check measures with the wrong amount of beats and somehow highlight them??? - I would also like to hear from other vim users as to tip and tricks they use to get the most from vim with lilypond. Hi all I was wondering is someone knows of a way to map the f10 key in vim so that after I run lilypond the pdf opens in xpdf or acroread?? since I am using hebrew I changed lilypond to ly2dvi. Is there something to be done to lilypond executible so that it chooses elatex??. I would like it to then show me what I have done without extra work. vim help lilypond
Hi all,
I want to extend gvim to add some additional features for lilypond.
1. I would like a way to add templates within a current lilypond file.
for example the repeat first ending to place the template at current
cursor position when I type :re or similar.
2. A way to add additional features to f10 binding in lilypond vimrc
that will cause xpdf to open with the current buffer (right now I have
f10 set up to do ly2dvi -p on the current buffer.
3. I can't tell if it is supposed to do it already but I would love to
type \gr ctl+n and get \grace{} with the cursor inside the braces ready
to type. Also a'2- will expand to a'2-\ with a list of options to choose
from.
these are just a few of my thoughts but it seems to me that most
lilypond users are emac users and there could be some development here.
If this isn't appropriate for you and you know someone else who could
help please forward it for me.
I will also forward it to the lilypond users group.

Hi all, I am notation single line songs with lyrics. I am finding that one of the things that is slowing me down is the adding of ' to note names. The other thing is getting relative to work for me - the way it is working for me is counter intuitive-- what I would like to do is define a scale at the beginning of the piece as the notes that don't need 's and all other notes add 's to. for example key e\phrygian my scale e' f' g' a' g' c' d' e' woulnt need 's but the f -> would need slashes or a relative as well as the <- e' would need commas or relative. Is there a way to do this now relative only defines a fourth, which forces me to spend a lot of time tweaking Any ideas would be most welcome. Hi all I am again finding myself in the postition of newbie who should
be a hacker.
I am trying to find a way to tell lilypond that when I enter a set of
notes e f g a b c d to read them as e' f' g' a' b' c' d'
\relative won't work for me because I need this to work for more than a
fourth.
what I thought of what to define a context (is this the right term??)
nigun = \property and then something that over rides the octave
settings
then I just encase my melody in nigun {} and away I go.
or is there a way to make relitive work for more than a fourth???

Well \relative in practice doesn't save me much time because a fourth with out ' or , is not enough and I can't seem to use \relative for the whole song. (could be I just don't know how) but even then I must fine tune the octave which takes me as much time as if I entered the , 's in the first place. Additionally I am only type setting monphonic songs with no accompaiment. Most of these songs ranges are within an octave. e' f' g' a' b' c'' d'' and sometimes the b below. simply put a fourth isn't enough for me. metronome markings
Hi all, I need to add metronome markings to my songs and was confused by the docs. Is there an easy way to do this?? Ideally I would like the midi tempo and the metronome marking to be the same. I mean, is there a way to enter the information once and have it take care of both o| = 128 and tempo = 128 ? If not I would accept help on the metronome markings I don't need to be too fancy. in 6/8 4 16th notes on the top and what should be on the bottom??
