I was reading the knothole today and Grant was talking about an index
to the Rivendell Readers. I've got most of the readers on pdf as a
solstice present a couple of years back.
So I was noodling around a bit and here's what I did:

I had a pair of 32s on my Schwinn that I ran at 80 PSI, which lasted about
3500 miles without a single flat before I tore a sidewall when I crashed the

Hi Ness,
Thank you :) I would love to see photos of your bike, and the BF. I
contemplated doing the same with a BF instead of going the custom

fit. Also, the lugs pushed me towards the custom route as well.

Thanks for the tips / kind words.
Now that I look back at the photos of the bike mounted on a bus, you
may be right. My other (non-riv) bike has the Wald Medium basket zip-

Ginz--I was surprised too. I think it's probably over-the-top for

So far I've had no trouble with my Paselas, but I'm running 26 x
1.5's.
Perhaps the 700's are more problematic?
I like the Marathons for heavy-dut stuff -- I'm using some 26 x 1.75's
on my Big Dummy -- but for regular street riding the Paselas seem fine
after three years of almost daily use.

Leslie, this sounds like a fantastic ride. Metrics are my favorite length

Yesterday was the 17th riding of the Burnsville Metric (http://
www.burnsvillemetric.com/). I'd not ridden it before; I wanted to
last year, but, didn't have enough miles under my belt to attempt. I
decided to give it a go this year, though.
Burnsville is a small town in western North Carolina,
I'd say that was a good description of the ride. It was also my longest
ride of the year. My AHH performed great as always. It was cold and windy.
I thought that my feet would be plenty warm in wool socks but my right foot
was frozen solid the second half of the ride. It is a nice course and a
Good report. Great photos and terrific looking bike. I am glad someone was
out there today. I was not for the reasons you mentioned. I need to get
some base miles for a tour in June but today was not the day for me to do
that. Iron Crotch, indeed.

i am guessing that the bolt and nut are actually two separate pieces
and if they were separated you could ease off the nut enough and the
bolt would fall out of the nose piece. just a guess.

The last two Paselas I bought 700 x 35 non-tourguard, both had sidewall
issues from the outset. There were the starts of tears in the sidewalls
from the time I mounted them. I think at least in some cases it is a
manufacturing issue. In the past, I have had decent luck with Paselas. I

In my experience w/ Paselas over the last 15 years or so, they have been the
best tires I can find (light, roll great, cheap), but are prone to sidewall
problems. They are much lighter and livelier than Marathons (total dogs,
YMMV) and when I can get them on sale for $15 each, I don't mind the

I have had the same sidewall experience as you with the Pasela, but
have been very happy with other Panaracer tires, like the Fire XC Pro,

$37/ea seems like a good deal for these. I will never buy a Panaracer
