As you are aware, we have provided a version of the FreeDOS install media as a drive image for USB Sticks for some time. While this is technically FreeDOS on USB, it is configured to be an installation source and not as a portable version of FreeDOS. But, this is extremely easy to change. :-) 1

Are you certain that the machine you are trying to install FreeDOS is not UEFI only and supports BIOS (Legacy) boot? And, that is enabled in the BIOS settings? Most modern Linux installers can boot both ways. Unfortunately, UEFI is not an option for FreeDOS at present.
