My 30MKI had the mast raked back and the rigging on the tight side. Weather
helm yes, it could be a bear. Round ups never. I could bury the rail deep
and just keep plowing along.
My 30MKII's rudder will stall then round up out of control with to much
sail up and not enough tension on the backstay
Well, they own it, but there's a lot more before you hit Tokyo.

So 30-2 has more tendency to round up than 30-1?? My 30-1 has a lot of weather
helms in heavy conditions even with double reefed main. I raked the mast
forward and still have the issue. I always thought the rudder design was the
culprit.

The trip took 5 and a half days. As far as equipment, we used a laptop with
OpenCPN for primary navigation and a handheld GPS unit as backup. Having an AIS
receiver was helpful as well. We also had a HF radio to get weather updates and
talk to our weather guy. EPIRB/PLBs onboard as well. A Vikin
15' seas and 35 to 40 knots wind. There was a Salty Dogs rally to BVI when we
left Hampton and we crossed golfstream at the same time. Due to weather some of
their boats got into trouble and called coast guard. Few activated EPIRBs (I
have included the CG news release below). It was really unset
I probably should have limited it somewhat, like up-current from Victoria
for instance.
