So 30-2 has more tendency to round up than 30-1?? My 30-1 has a lot of weather 
helms in heavy conditions even with double reefed main. I raked the mast 
forward and still have the issue. I always thought the rudder design was the 
culprit.

I purchased an '88 30 MKII two summers ago after owner a 30 MKI for just over a 
decade.  It has to be one of the "biggest" 30 footers out there.

I would change everything, even the fuel if possible.
Can't comment on the Volvo heater.
My Yanmar needs a bit of throttle if its cool outside.  If it's really cold I 
need to give it up to 3/4 throttle and it takes a few cranks.  I think this 
could be normal on an engine without glow plugs.  When it is warm out, or the 
engine is warm it starts right up.  I get a little smoke at start up but then 
it runs fine.  I think there is more smoke with a colder engine.  Since you 
purchased your boat in the fall, if it was me I would wait until I saw how the 
engine started and ran in warm weather before I made a decision on the 
injectors.  Disclaimer: this is my first diesel so take that for what it's 
worth (for months I thought that toggle switch on the engine control panel was 
a glow plug switch and faithfully held it down for 30 seconds before 
starting... it took months before I figures it out).




Reef early and it's a fun boat.  So reef early. :)
Going out in conditions that I would not think twice about a full main, a 135%, 
single handed, with a glass of merlot and a plate of cheese in the cockpit in 
my old MKI found me rounding up out of control gulping my wine before it 
spilled on the MKII.  However, the cabin design and light air performance more 
than make up for having to think a little more before going out in a breeze.
