[Bug 466321] Re: After Ubuntu installation, nothing in universe is installable until package list is updated

[Bug 435805] Re: Icons overlap for categories with >= 9 rows
I am very doubtful that this is a graphics driver issue. This seems to be more related to changes to the UNR code to calculate icon spacing and window sizes. [Bug 478962] Re: After upgrade to Karmic, CD/DVD drive no longer works
Doris, I feel really silly. I did some asking around about your issue. There are still some unanswered questions about "why", but I believe I have found a way to get rhythmbox to play your CD. It seems to be that CDs are no longer automatically recognized by rhythmbox. You have to actually take a few steps to make it appear. After inserting the CD into your drive, start up Rhythmbox. Then *right-click* on "Music" in the left pane, then click ok "Import File...". This will open a file selection box (kinda like when you browse to open a document in Open Office or such). In that file selection box, click on "Audio Disc" (or whatever has a CD icon). Then the cd will be listed under "Devices" in the left panel of Rhythmbox. You can then click on the cd and its tracks will appear in the playlist as expected. If you can confirm that this proceedure works, I can then work on getting the Rhythmbox developers to fix this usability problem. Obviously, anything more than one-click to get a CD playing is too much. Let me know how that works for you. -- After upgrade to Karmic, CD/DVD drive no longer works https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/478962 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 478962] Re: After upgrade to Karmic, CD/DVD drive no longer works
Drat... Just to confirm, could you please save a screenshot (Print Screen button) of the file selection window that you see after clicking on "Import File..."? Of course make sure that the CD is in the drive. As for the odd behavior for when you click on the Rhythmbox icon, it might be going into "System Tray Mode" or whatever they call it. The second click on the program might then bring up the familiar window. In the upper-right hand corner, next to your Date and Time, is the "System Tray". The volume control is there, and Rhythmbox may also be there after your first click. That is also a very nice quote. Doris, after some discussion with others about your issue, we would like to have you try an experiment to see if the problem is limited to just rhythmbox or to other media players. If it isn't already installed, please use the Software Center to install the program called "Banshee". [Bug 490238] Re: Video Player does not show any video, but has audio, if connected to an external monitor (dual monitor setup)
bkp, I am not 100% certain, but you might have to install python- launchpadlib to make apport-collect work. I don't think apport-collect was a part of the standard 8.10 install. Also, because you have a different version and different hardware, I would suggest filing a new bug report -- just in case the cause for this one is different. In the new bug report, I would mention this bug report so that we can mark them as duplicates in the future if that is the case. It may also be possible that your problem has already been solved for your hardware, but was possibly not backported to your OS version (which sometimes happens because of various reasons). It may be helpful to try out the LiveCD (or LiveUSB) of Karmic Koala and see if the problem persists. Agreed, this is the "correct" behavior, however, I am not sure it is the "best" behavior. I can't quite put my finger on it, but I never quite right about it. Maybe it should fade away, or become translucent? The original reporter's suggestion of having a "X" to close the notification is very Windows-esqe and is really only useful if the bubble was to remain up until the user acknowledges it. [Bug 511903] Re: Notification balloon disappears when hovering over it
Saverio, the reason for having it disappear is because otherwise, it would prevent users from being able to click on window elements below the notification box. For Jaunty Jackalope (9.04), it did not do this, and it would be fairly annoying if you used an application like Pidgin that also used notification icons to display status changes of buddies. I do agree that it can be improved, but not having it disappear was actually worse than the current behavior. Also, I am a little confused by your statement "when a user connects to a wireless network, it says 'click on the icon'". I am not aware of this behavior. [Bug 478962] Re: [karmic] Audio CDs do not play in rhythmbox after upgrade
Doris, what Teej is asking for you to do is very similar to what I had you do for comment #12. The "terminal" is a program found in "Accessories" and lets you type in commands (much like computers back in the 80's and early 90's). This time, instead of the "apport-collect ..." command, you will type "rhythmbox -d" and then press enter. Rhythmbox will then start up. Hello, and thank you for taking time to report this bug. This seems to be an issue with a program called "Wine" that is being used to run your windows-based programs. Therefore, I have moved the bug report to those people. Hopefully, they will be able to help you further. I am not personally familiar with mailwasher, but Linux does have several very nice email clients that you could use. A commonly used program which is available for Windows and Linux is Thunderbird. The ability to check your emails without having to download them is not a feature of a program, but rather, a feature of the protocol that you use. By default, many email clients use POP by default, which downloads entire emails. If you use IMAP, then only the email headers (subject line and such) are downloaded first. I suspect that mailwasher might have been using IMAP by default. -- Getting "An internal error has occured: Cyptic error message JX24 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/484583 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 499392] Re: software-center crashed with TypeError in call_async()
@niroxx, @yankeeboy254, while I agree that a problem with the software- center is certainly an important problem to solve, the importance setting of "Medium" is appropriate according to the guidelines set at the webpage: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/Importance "Medium" bugs are for those that have a significant impact upon non- essential software and non-essential hardware (cameras, sound card, etc.). "High" bugs are those that have rendered the computer useless (repetitive crashes, freezes, etc.) and/or there is a risk of "loss of user data". The Software Center, while it is Canonical's centerpiece "App Store" in a sense, is not essential software (as compared to the kernel and gnome, perhaps). Also, the functionality of the Software Center is also duplicated by the Synaptics GUI, and as an extreme backup, the 'apt- get' command-line. I understand your frustrations with Software Center -- I feel it, too. However, having the bug set to "Medium" does not diminish the chances of the problem getting fixed because the Software Center is a high priority project for Canonical. I fully expect this issue to be solved for the Lucid release. -- software-center crashed with TypeError in call_async() https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/499392 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Jonas, I have just noticed something odd. You say that you upgraded to Karmic (9.10), but your log files say that you are using the Jaunty (9.04) kernel. Double-check your /boot/grub/menu.lst file. If you are using Karmic (9.10), your kernel version should be 2.6.31. If you don't see that entry in your menu.lst file, make a backup of it, and then run 'sudo update-grub' to rebuild that file. Then boot into the 2.6.31 kernel and see if your touchpad works. -- Touchpad not working https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/487804 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
