rosetta is an Ubuntu framework to manage translations. I think Ubuntu has its 
own description translation system. There were lots of suggestions from Rosetta 
for our team too (it). 

I have no idea how those suggestions were pulled in in our system though.

due to some problems with accounts we had lately in the Italian team, 2
issues came up about the DDTSS and I decided to go see how they were in
the new system under development. So here I am with two wishlist items:

1. In the Login/Create login pages there is no way to get/reset your
password if you forget it (the (in)famous "Forget password" button :)
I don't know whether is possible to add this feature to the system (or
if the lack of it is intentional).

2. It has been pointed out to me that in the create login page the name
"Alias" for the account name field can be misleading -at least for one
Italian user-; I wonder if maybe it could be switched to "Account name",
"Username" or something like that.

Thanks again for working on this upgrade of the system, it's something I
look forward to.

I don't see Italian among the language shown there. For instance, I
have the translation of sipml5 ready and I plan to send it in time for
its Translation call.

Hm. motivated yes :) - For Italian I can try to do my best for
the time being. I am quite busy with other translation projects right
now, but they should be done soon and I already had planned to make
po-debconf translation one of my priority.

Ops! I misunderstood what you wrote. You did not include "outsider"
languages yet.

Hello,

I noticed that there aren't any files of the traslated package
desriptions (eg. Translation-it) in
http://ftp.debian.org/debian/dists/jessie/main/i18n/ 

but there are in the corresponding directory for sid and stabel.

Is it right? No translations for those using Testing?

on the ddp svn repository the Italian translation is 100% with 975

Even if I do a "make update-po" command I get for Italian

964 translated, 8 fuzzy, 11 untranslated.

maybe I am going crazy... and today I already made a couple of silly
Debian related mistakes, so I might be making a gross mistake again but:

$ svn up
Alla revisione 10166.
$ msgfmt -c -v -o /dev/null po4a/po/it.po 
975 messaggi tradotti.

even if I go on the anonscm.debian.org website at the page:
http://anonscm.debian.org/viewvc/ddp/manuals/trunk/debian-faq/po4a/po/it.po?view=log
and I download the version of the po file there it is the same I have
with no fuzzy messages and 975 translated messages (and the it.po file
is 9 months old).

Am I missing something obvious?

Localization status pages not updated since Sept 6th

Hi!

I first noticed this on the Italian page for the status of the localization
of debconf messages [1], but I have checked the status pages for po
files and po4a files too, also I checked a couple other languages.

It seems all the status pages (all the ones I have checked at least *g*,
that you can reach from here [2]) have been last updated on Sept 6th. Is
this a know issue?

Hi all!

I am trying to save a couple minutes (I am lazy that way *g*) when I
send TAF/MAJ messages to the Italian localization team.

Well, we did not use those messages much so far but I plan to try and do
it regularly in the effort to get closer to the 100% mark.

Although I can save a "mail draft" and add by hand the name of the
package, the deadline, a link to the file and so on, I was wondering if
there was a way to do it in a more automated way.

Unfortunately I am not able to create from scratch a script for that
purpose, but I think I would be able - or at least I could try - to
modify one to suit my needs if I had something to work on (to copy or
to plagiarize if you wish, although in an open source point of view I would
be developing :)

So I was wondering. How do the "Review in progress" messages get
created, what tools do you all use for those kind of repeatedly used
mails. I was thinking, for instance, also about the NMU messages that
Christian or David send to the list here.

Any hint on how to save a bit of my time so I can misuse it? :)

[DDTP/DDTSS] Strange way new translation are handled - is there a problem with the system?

Hi all!

In the Italian team we noticed a strange behaviour with the descriptions
that are being queued for re-translation.

It seems that 2 new descriptions get created, one after the other
(description numbers are subsequent). One
with only the short description and one complete.

When we get the description to retranslate, the diff becomes useless
because it is a diff of the "new" version compared to the "new empty" one, not
the old one.

To give some clues, an example:

package: sylpheed-i18n

 you can see in the following page, 2 descriptions were created today:
 216295 216296

 http://ddtp.debian.net/ddt.cgi?package=sylpheed-i18n

 216925 is empty except for the short description and thus considered
 already translated

 the diff is basically useless since it shows all description as new, 

 http://ddtp.debian.net/ddt.cgi?diff1=216295&diff2=216296&language=it

 but actually only the list of languages within is changed.


This is overall not a huge problem, not even a big problem, so it's
probably not worth doing a lot of work just for it, but I am more
puzzled about the strange behavior and the chance that it might be a
symptom of something not working properly in the system, that is all.

So feel free to dismiss this issue if it is just about missing diffs.

Compendia of all translated .po files - are they still generated? and where to find them

Hi! 

Long time ago I did download the tarball of all the po-debconf
translated templates from 

http://i18n.debian.net/debian-l10n-material/po-debconf-testing.tar.gz

which was still on i18n.debian.net. I can't seem to find them on
i18n.debian.org. Are they still generated and available somewhere?

Moreover, provided that the huge compendium of all .po files is still
generated as well, I would second Aron Xu proposal [1] of generating per
language tarballs (since the global one was like 1GB in size :-)

If they still exist somewhere, can someone point me to those files?

Hi!

I don't know if anyone else is experiencing this. I can login on the
DDTSS interface and indeed my "Infos" on the page are displayed
correctly (number of Translations/Reviews). But if I try to translate
or review something it kinda looks like I am not correctly
authenticated.

I don't get any button (submit/abort) in the translation window and
only the button for changing comments in the review page.

I also tried to send a private message and after hitting send I get a
new empty message window and not the usual "Message was sent" window.

I hope it is not some problem with my cookies settings, or something
like that; but I did try to remove all cookies and re-login with
similar results.

it worked since now I can review and translate what is already queued.

But I experience the same problem described by helix and Joe. If I
fetch a package I get a page

"Fetched  successfully"

and then I get redirected to another page saying

"All descriptions for package  already fetched by others "

I don't know if it has anything to do with it, but since it is another
strange thing I just noticed right now, I will mention it in case it
might help.

There seems to be something wrong with the ecodings. You can see it in
descriptions with accented characters. I am pretty sure they showed up
perfectly before. Here are 2 examples: 
1 already translated package

and 1 partially translated.

http://ddtp.debian.net/ddt.cgi?desc_id=132405&language=it

You can see the accented letters are not shown correctly. It was OK
before, and they still are on the packages.debian.org website (although
I am not sure how it works, if the site shows the current version, or
one that it previously received)
e.g. http://packages.debian.org/it/sid/python3-mia  (same description of 1st
example).

It did work in the sense that I could successfully fetch a description, both a 
random one given by the system (empty fetch), and fetching a specific one.

The partial translation I got for the specific one I fetched has all
the accented characters mangled[1]. I can of course fix them in the
translation, so that is not a prob, unless it affects already completely
translated descriptions.

[DDTP] something not working properly again

Hi,

Something strange is happening today, I am not sure if it is related
with the DNS thing you are all taking care of (I don't understand all
the technical details here, sorry).

In the DDTSS, fetching a new package with an empty fetch gets you a
"Package not found" message.

Fetching a specific package by number works.

The page

doesn't work today (it worked yesterday), today does not show any
packages' name.
I tried with a couple different languages with the same results that I got for
Italian.

Really thanks for working on this and making it possibile for us to
work on the DDTP/DDTSS.

Exactly in the same paragraph (at the end) it says "To obtain the
description of a special package package use GET package lang. " :)

So, yes, in theory it is possible.

I foresee some problems. First of all, from what I read on the
mailing-list here I think the email system has some problems. 

Then there is the issue that some languages have requested (Italian did
at least, IIRC) to disable the email interface since the translations
made that way go directly into the system without any chance for a
review and many languages consider revewing and important step of the
translation process.

That is just my experience as a DDTP user/translator; an admin might
give you more infos.

Oh I do understand perfectly what you mean. We (Italian team) have just
retranslated the whole lot of the FreeDict packages :)

It is indeed a repetitive work once you have an established (reviewed)
translated template. And lots of times we (translators) have hoped for
some system that would make those translation automatic. This is
tipically the case of kernel packages (as Martin rightly said),
dictionary packages, localization packages, etc.

So your idea is deeply appreciated.

I don't think though there is a way to disable (or reenable) the email
interface for certain packages only. (if I say something inaccurate I
hope someone will correct me once again :). Or anyway a way to bypass
the review process for some established and repetitive translation.

If there is a way to implement something like that I am sure it would be
very welcome by most translators.

If the problem is only Italian, I can bring the subject up in our l10n
mailing-list and see if there is an agreement on it being worth enabling
the email interface back. 

Also you could choose the email and Italian would have to cope with the
80+ description manually without having the other languages do so.

It would be maybe nice to know if Italian is the only language with the
email interface disabled, so you could make a more informed decision,
maybe?

in the meantime, remember that if you position the curson in the "Fetch
specific description" field, and hit "Enter" leaving it blank, you get a
new description to translate.

Hi Francesca :),

I can not point you to the right conversation (in this mailing-list I
think) right now, but could it be the "old" problem of files being
gzipped twice?

I experience it with Firefox too.

To try and see if it is the same issue. Download with the browser,
gunzip, then rename it adding once again the .gz extension and gunzip a
second time. You should have then a correct .pot file.

I don't see it empty. Are you using Iceweasel? it could be Iceweasel
blocking the page, it does it for me (until I allow it) due to the data
in the form being from a http while the page is https. If it is so you
should see a shield in the location bar of Iceweasel (pls forgive me if
I am stating the obvious).

Yes, in Iceweasel I always have to add the exception too when I log in
(as far as I remember... mostly I am always logged in); but I don't
remember getting timeouts, not recently or regularly at least.

I'd like to bring this subject to some attention again because I think
the problem still stands. There are 2 (apparently, at the moment)
conflicting issues:

- package descriptions (all the texlive-* ones) are a nightmare to
translate right now
- from the user p-o-v it's very important to have a list of the CTAN
packages included (possibly with a brief description).

What about splitting the list in separate paragraphs, i.e. making each
entry a new paragraph. DDTP works on a paragraph basis; that way we
would have all not-changed entries already translated and we'll only
have to add/translate/update the changed entries.

Something like (an example from the beginning of texlive-lang-french,
the first on hand):

Description-en: TeX Live: French
Support for French and Basque.
.
This package includes the following CTAN packages:
.
 aeguill -- Add several kinds of guillemets to the ae fonts.
.
 apprends-latex -- Apprends LaTeX!
.
 babel-basque --
.
 babel-french -- Babel contributed support for French.

Yes, the list will become even longer, but frankly I think the
descriptions are in most cases so long right now that it won't be a big
problem.

The user will still have the complete list of packages with
descriptions; us translators will have a much easier life translating
the package descriptions. 

I do understand that the first goal of descriptions is not to make
translators' life easier :) , but maybe this way that goal could be
achieved without harming the need of the users which of course comes
first.

What do you think?

Hi,

I don't have much info to add. I write only to say that this was triggered by 
me filing a bug against crossfire (#761092 [1]) for its debconf template. 

I used the usual procedure, (checking in the Italian debconf status page if it 
was available to translate), fetching the .pot here

and when it was done I reported a wishlist bug on crossfire.

Where to ask for help on interpreting English to translate it more accurately?

Hello!

every once in a while, during the translation/review process, we (the
Italian translators/reviewers) stumble on some translation we don't
agree on. I imagine that happens with other teams/languages too.

Usually web searches, books and such can help, but some times we don't
agree on what the English authors meant to say.

We tried in the past to contact the authors themselves, but we were not
always lucky.

I wonder where we could ask question such as:

 «the sentence "bla bla bla" in this document/package description means:
   a)  this and this
  or
   b) that and that»

I thought of 2 options - here and in debian-l10n-english.

What would be the proper place to ask?

What I find strange here is that you work on basic_defs.sgml file. If I
recall correctly you only have to work on debian-faq.sgml since all the
other files are included there and that is the only file mentioned in
po4a.cfg anyway.

That will also explain the complaints about "no document type
declaration" since the document type is only declared in the
debian-faq.sgml file (I think).

Another thing I had to do was to find in the archives the sgml English
version corresponding to the Italian sgml translation. otherwise the
paragraphs did not match and I did end with errors and little
translated.

Basically I did as follows.

1) Find in the archive/repo the original .sgml files corresponding to the 
Italian translation.

2) I used a command similar to:

po4a-gettextize -f sgml -m project-history.it.sgml -M UTF-8 -L UTF-8 -l 
project-history.it.sgml -p it.po

3) then I updated the .po file with the new .pot, bringing the Italian .po
file up to date (well much was fuzzy or untranslated of course :)

And from then on it was just the usual work.

Hi all!

As someone on the Italian team pointed out to me, it looks like the
Translation->LANG> files are not being updated since the 25th of
April, as you can see here:

Indeed all the new translations don't show up in https://packages.debian.org
although they do appear as translated in the DDTP database on ddtp.debian.net.

As some added info, I noticed the same thing and filed bug #790117 [1]

on mrpt source package but, as Joe says, many more are affected.  As I
said in the report, the strange thing is the "double dot"s are not
present in the sources, so I suspect it might be something "done" by a
packaging tool, but I was not able to understand the cause.

DDTSS down and "arf arf" messages

Hi all!

as some of you might have noticed the DDTSS is down (actually all of
ddtp.debian.net looks down).

At the same time the "Arf, Arf, Arf, bad guys, wrong files, arf, arf,
arf" messages reappeared in the debian-l10n-devel mailing list so I
suspect the 2 things might be correlated.

Since that error message does not give away too much information and
since I was the last one doing a commit (Italian wordlist) on the
debian-l10n repo on Alioth on Friday night, I sure hope this 3rd fact is
not correlated too and it is not what is causing the down time.

Although I dont expect a wordlist -as badly formatted as it can be- to
cause this kind of problems, I am of course ready to take care of
reverting the commit if it is necessary.

I hope someone will be able to look into the DDTSS current problem.

Translation of Debian Progeny Guide aka kow to translate documentation with no localization structure available

Hi!

some Italian translators have translated the Debian Progeny guide which
is in the Debian DDP repository and it is published on the website among
the obsolete documentation, here

Never the less, since there is a published version I think it would be
nice to publish the Italian version too.

The problem for me is that right now there is no i18n/l10n structure
available in the repo (po files, or localized directories).

I am trying to understand more on the process of going from the
files in the ddp repo to the published version of the documentation on
the website.

What would it take to have the Italian version published? (dirs to
create? maybe a makefile?? ) I would really be thankful for any help on
this. Please also note that I cross-posted to debian-doc and debian-i18n
mailing lists because I am not sure which team takes care of this kind
of aspects (and maybe debian-www is involved too for the website page
creation). I am subscribed to both lists so feel free to set the
reply-to field to the more appropriate one.

Hi,

the DDTSS stopped working for me circa 20 mins ago (8.15 CEST).

I can reach ddtp2.debian.net for the package description pages (e.g. 
http://ddtp2.debian.net/ddt.cgi?desc_id=245197&getuntrans=it) , but not the 
DDTSS not for Italian or the other languages I tried.

When I try to reach the DDTSS pages I get An "Internal server error [...] 
Apache/2.2.22 (Debian) Server at ddtp2.debian.net Port 443"

Bug#855179: debian-reference-it: Disable Weblate for currently .po and git maintaned Italian translation

Hi,

I am (was? since I am not the Last-Translator) the current Italian
translator of the Debian Reference. I always kept it up to date (to
the best of my capabilities, of course).

I saw that a recent change was made via Weblate (changing the
translator assignement, as I said).

I always assumed that Weblate was enabled only for those languages who
did not have an official translator in the Debian project.

In the past I sent my translations for review in the
debian-l10n-italian mailing list the first time and for any major
change. And I did commit my translations.

I understand that translation, like everything else in Debian, is a
community work. But as a wishlist I would like to ask to enable
Weblate only for those languages that don't have an official/active
translator; or at least to disable it for those languages that have an
active translator and request it.

I feel that translation needs consistency and review, when possible
(think of a scenario where everyone was able to do NMU on every
package...I think every developer would be very wary of such a situation).

In my case, I feel like I would have to either recheck every change
made or abandon a translation that I worked a lot on (the Debian
Reference is quite a big document) but that I can not guarantee the
quality of (even if possibly the quality of the Weblate one would be
better than mine).

Moreover being noted as the Last-Translator in the .po header, I
always replied to any call for update or any other request of
information/correction. So I think that having someone in the
Last-Translator field who is officially responsible of a translation
is a plus. The same is true for the Language Team header that was
changed from "Italian " to
"Italian
". I
have no idea if/where the Weblate Italian team is reachable (hopefully
mails would ge redirected to the correct debian-l10n- team.

This is just a general wishlist based on my past experience with
Weblate; it has nothing to do specifically with the person or the
quality of the recent change (1 string, correct as far as I can see)
made via Weblate to the Italian translation.

I put on CC the debian-i18n mailing list because I see that
translation are moving more and more towards Weblate and I would like
to point out this side of having an uncontrolled/unreviewed source for
Debian translations. I apologize for the noise if the CC was out of place.

I am not sure that notification will be of help. It's one thing to have
notification on a 100 messages translation of a program and another
thing to get notifications for every change on something like the
debian-reference that has more than 7500 messages.

I don't think a translator should "police" their own translation if
they are keeping it reasonably up to date. 

Translations particularly gain a lot from consinstency. The same
term translated in two ways (both correct) across a document can lead
to a lot of confusion.

And another main thing I worry about the Last-Translator and
Language-Team assignments which are the addresses used in case of call
for updates or bug reports.

On the other hand I don't know the inner workings of Weblate and maybe
it has some ways to guarantee quality assurance.

My main experience with Weblate comes from debian-handbook; as a
coordinator, not translator. It was problematic. Translors did not
like when their work was changed and they perceived the change in
Last-Translator as "stealing" their work. Some translation were
published before review and with errors not corrected.

I understand that Weblate can make translations easier and thus get
more things translated and that is good. But I think some work-flow
should be put in place such as to try to guarantee the same quality
standards that Debian enforces for any other aspect of the Project.

Allowing anyone to make whatever changes to everything and *also*
becoming the person officially responsible for that translation no
matter how big/litte/correct the change was sounds not reasonable to
me. Maybe to understand my worries think of the same situation in
terms of packetization instead of translation (yes, packetization
surely is more critical than translation as far as errors go! just
trying to get my thoughts through :)).

I just wanted to express my thoughts as a translator and coordinator,
so that developers and package maintainers could maybe take into
account this side of things when deciding how to handle translations.

just some tips from a user, probably someone more savy with the inner workings 
of the system can give more info.

You can get the whole list of untranslated package descriptions for a specific 
language at a page with the following URL (where  is the 2 letter code 
for the language, e.g. "it" for Italian).

For the popcon thing, aside what you are suggesting, if you go the
page of the stats (http://ddtp2.debian.net/stats/stats-sid.html) and
hover with the mouse on the PopconRank column you get a tooltip with
what (I think) are the untranslated description with the higher popcon
rank. If you save the webpage and work on the file, I imagine you can
easily create a script that extract those names (usually around 15
package names).

already fixed that mistake in the DDTSS system. It needs some time to
be approved and incorporated in the actual package description in the
system.

But any help with translating/correcting the descriptions is welcome,
so feel free to check out the DDTSS system and join the translation
efforts!

Hi all,

the Italian team is not using the mail interface at all. We asked for
it to be disabled due to the lack of a review process. If the access
was somehow restricted it could probably be useful. It could even be
more useful if it could be really integrated with the DDTSS system and
have the translations done by email go for review in the web interface.

Eons ago, when I used the mail interface (no DDTSS yet), I used a tool
called ddtc. I see the package is still included in Debian. It took
care of many things, including the encoding, and sending the mails to
the server in the right format. I have no idea if it still works with
the system we have now, but maybe you can take a look at it.

It was indeed really cool. I think the Italian team did give some
positive feedback. We discussed between us Italian translators about
it and we were very happy. We kept waiting for it to be put in
production.

I am sorry if it seemed that there was no interest or it was not
appreciated. If we did not use it, it was only because we were under
the impression that the system was only a testing system. We thought
that the translation work done there would not be included for real in
the system. So we just tried it out, taking a look around, but not
really using it for the daily translation work.

Requested Salsa access to Debian Documentation Project group for Italian translations

Hi!

I am trying to finally fix my salsa position to be able to regularly
translate/update my translations.

I am the Italian translator for part of Release Notes, The Debian Faq,
Project History which are all under the Debian Documentation Project
group on Salsa.

I sent the request to join via the web interface but I imagine someone
has to approve my request to join the group. So, this mail is just to
explain why I ask for write access. If I am granted commit rights I
will only use them for translation work.

yes, s3v idea is very good. I think the system calls incomplete
descriptions "partially translated". So maybe
"allpartiallytranslatedpackages"?  (this is different of course from
"allpreviouslytranslated")

I did not check the bug/patch so I am not sure which of the 2 cases it
covers, or if it covers both.

Thans a lot for taking care of this problem.

Obviously both translation are "untranslated" now (the package
description changed in the mean time, more so for the French team who
had the problem since long ago).

Each team can decide whether to try their luck in re-fetching it for updating 
it, I imagine.

But I think we were talking about texlive-latex-extra (which is much

marked as "untranslated" even if in the general package page

and indeed, if you look at the French page above, you can see that everything
after rcsinfo is not translated but it's the original English version.

So, yes, it looks translated. But, more importantly, I suspect all the
correspondence between the original paragraph and the translated ones
got messed up. That is what happened for Italian anyway, which
prompted us to refetch it, do some grep/diff/checks of our own and fix
the translation.

Your team can chose what to do about it, but if you ever update it I
suggest to do a check that there is still a correspondence between the
automatically translated paragraph and the original contents. I
wouldn't trust the automatic translations at all in this instance.

I know work is underway to finally have a new host on the debian.org domain for 
the DDTSS, which is a long awaited good news.

I see that the DDTSS at ddtp2.debian.net is back online.

Before putting work and effort in it I would like to know if it is
usable. If the translation work done there will be preserved or get
lost.

I am in the process of updating this po file, but I am puzzled by something.

It looks like the following 4 (2?) messages were supposed to be multiline 
messages but are rendered like 1 single message for each line instead of 2 
messages of 2 lines. This makes the translation quite akward.

Usually I see multiline messages so I think there would be any problem 
transforming these 4 lines too in 2 messages only.

But I don't know if there are technical reasons for this choice.

Debian-reference salsa-weblate sync introduces gettext errors in Italian translation

Hello,

I was checking if my translation of the debian-reference was up to
date. As far as I know weblate was disabled for the Italian language
since the translation is (was?) uptodate and I try to keep it
reasonably updated.

I see a merge has been made that has introduced an error in the
Italian po file which, of course, makes msgfmt complains when I try to
verify it.

This is the commit I am talking about:

Aside the fact that the Last-Translator changed, so I would not be
notified anymore of translation changes -sigh-, it seems that the sync
introduces some form of what are supposed to be comments included in
angle brackets and "HEAD weblate" headers.

But that completely disrupts the Italian po file.

I will fix the file by hand, but I would like to ask to look into weblate-salsa 
sync behaviour to avoid such things happening again in the future.

Thanks for working on this. I noticed ddtp.d.o is already up and
running and I tried working on it a bit, even thought there was no
further comunication about it being ready to be used.

Maybe you already know this, but there is one problem we, in the
Italian team, noticed with accented characters. There seems to be some
character code issues. (see for instance
https://ddtp.debian.org/ddtss/index.cgi/it/translate/network-manager-ssh-gnome
where the word "è" (second word of the first paragraph) become some
unrecognizable character.

The frame where the diff was shown for updated translations is also
missing...but I guess you already know this.

please note that the new system has a real problem with coding
characters, which affects also the Danish translations

So far there was no official notification of the system transition done.

It would really be helpful if whoever is taking care of the transition
would inform the translators on how to behave.

It is not much about losing work (which would not be fair... but life
is not fair), but surely not to insert in the database a lot of coding
mistakes that can have a big repercussion (if you consider automatic
translations of all shared paragraphs).

In my opionion, officially there is a last dump of the old system and
no notification of an official system change. So that dump should be
the starting point of the new system if there is a choice to be made
on what to discard (better yet if everything can be kept! :) ).

Anyway, that is my opionion and it counts 0. I can live with whatever
other choice is made. But I think it would be fair for translators to
at least know if they have to work on the new system (and try to take
measures to save what's lost) or wait.

I am really thankful for the work put in this transition by
volunteers. I really do.

So once again thanks to whomever is working for giving us a more
stable platform to work on.

There is definitely no need to apologize!!

We lived so much with a very unstable system, that waiting a bit
longer is no big deal. 

As you said it was confusing to see a seeming new working system and
not being able to use it (I know... I rushed to use it the first day
it was online :)

Perfect, at least now all teams are aware of that.

think, so I can try to do it myself if it helps.

I found out by mistake I have such privileges (I wanted to write a
team message) I imagine it has something to do with the "isadmin" field
in the user record database.

Maybe (next time) it would be enough to comunicate this kind of

Is there an (easy) way for you to have a list of them? Not the wrong
ones, all the translations accepted in that problematic time
interval. Each language could review their own translations. I surely
can do it for Italian, maybe other languages too.

Hi all,

indeed the diff frame is now back and working, but it seems to fetch the wrong 
old description sometimes.

For instance here

it shows the diff with version 815 (very old) instead of 276327 which is the 
previous one, as one can see here:

Personally I have not pinpoint how/when this happens, maybe keep an
eye on the issue or investigate how the code decide what diff to show.

I am really happy to see the whole DDTSS system get back in track for good.

In the past days I checked the Etherpad with list of character-coding
affected description and I annotated all the fixed ones I found with a
"FIXED" at the end of the line. Italian is all fixed now, as most
other languages. As far as I can see there are less than an handful of
fr translations to fix and then everything should be without issues.

As a translator, it is kinda disheartening to see one's work being

I did some quick checks, the recently translated packages that I
checked have indeed the translation available in
packages.debian.org. These include for instance manpages-mk which is a new
package, it is only in sid (it did not exist before) and I see the
italian translation completed 3 days ago in the packages.debian.org
page.

I did not check *every* package, just a handful, and only in Italian.

since I did not see it mentioned I wanted to add, for those who maybe
don't know, that for those who are marked "admin" (more on this later)
there is a "Teamlist" link in each language page that shows the
userlist with name of contributors for that list and for each name
shows the number of translations, revisions and the timestamp of last
activity. It also shows the email address which is, I imagine, why the
page is not public.

If such a page exists I imagine a table must exist in the database. As
for the "admin" thing, I don't remember how I became one. It was a
long long time ago. In the userlist there is a column (a field in a
database table?) called "isadmin" and I have value "1" while normal
users have it empty.

The only 2 things it allows me to do (as far as i know) are 1)
write a Team message in the Italian page (actually in all language
pages), and see the userlist (for all language pages).

Since I can see the userlist for all languages, I can see that pt-BR
doesn't have any users with that field active.

Maybe who works on the database can do something with those data.

There are of course the stats web pages which are a good source for info too.

This wiki entry is not understandable for people outside of DDTP. It is 
just a bunch of notes and TODO entries.
It doesn't help Debian as a project. But it IMHO harms Debian's image 
because this is accessible to the public and someone could argue this is 
a regular Debian website.


I did not contribute to that particular wiki page, but I contribute to 
the DDTP translation work, and I am thankful for all the work Debian 
maintainers/developers have dedicated to the system in the past years.


I think that page might contain several useful information for anyone 
wanting to work on maintaining the system.


One option would be to rename it to something indicating that is mostly 
a page for those who want to contribute to managing/maintaining the 
system, more than using it for translations.


What I did (and mind you, since it is a wiki anyone can make their 
changes and improvement to the pages) is putting a note at the beginning 
of the page stating that the page is mostly aimed at maintainers.


Someone else might want to make bigger changes

It is not clear for me why this wiki entry exists. I see no good reason

I don't think I saw anywhere else info on the DDTP internal database 
structure so, personally, I did not delete the entry.

So what is the main resource? Please centralize your information's for

DDTSS review page for translations does not highlight changes/differences anymore

Hi all,

since a couple of days ago the DDTSS interface stopped highlighting the 
changes/difference between the original translated version and the one 
edited by the reviewer.


I suspect this is due to the last commit by Thomas, but I am not sure. 
And I take the chance to thank him for working on the DDTP.


The original behaviour with the highlighted changes can be seen here:

I just implemented option #2: language admins can now activate user 
accounts from the 'general user list' screen [1].

has 0 contribution in Italian but who worked in another language? That 
would be very bad. I know we have some contributors that pop up every 
3/4 year just to lend a hand; it would be really annoying if they came 
back and didn't find their account anymore.
