Hi all Bear in mind here that I’m still being treated with chemotherapy and this makes me exceedingly grumpy - more so than usual - so this entire discussion has started to wear me down. Some guidance to think about before deciding to mention anything else - and yes, this will feel like I’m singling people out:
1. I mentioned this already - gatekeeping. Stop it. The world now uses a variety of MUAs on mobile devices, laptops, desktops, glasses, headsets, cars, GPS devices, smartwatches etc etc and they all differ. It’s the CONTENT that matters, not the format. 2. Choice. Someone mentioned that people have a choice, and yes they do. A choice to send how they like, and a choice whether to read that or not. Choices work both ways. If you choose to use an MUA that can’t deal with HTML, that’s your choice. If you choose to auto-delete HTML email that is also your choice. 3. It’s the holiday season for a large part of the world (obviously), so a large number of subscribers have got free time/are hiding from relatives/are off work and have time to kill. Just because you’ve got time to kill does *not* mean that you should drive the overall discussion quality into the mire. Additionally, a large number of subscribers are paying zero attention to the list BECAUSE it’s the holiday season, so if you don’t get the reply you expected, don't post passive-aggressive replies about your original idea. 4. PLEASE consider, when sending an email that is moaning about practices of a $BigProvider, whether the content of the email is simply a whinge or if it’s asking a question or appealing for help. If it’s the former, delete it before sending. As the South African rugby referee famously said to the England and Wales captains in the 6Nations Under 21 test earlier in the year - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xCNx3mIUGMI Oh, one more: 5. Think *very* carefully before replying. If you must, reply privately to me and not the list. Regards, I hope you all have a good New Year, Graeme _______________________________________________ mailop mailing list mailop@mailop.org https://list.mailop.org/listinfo/mailop
