The other thing about reading the text/plain attachment of email is no vulnerability exposure due to the HTML downloading some file (think <img or javascript) that exploits a browser vulnerability. Also the <img could be a beacon -- a tracker that notes that the email has been read and records your IP address and other browser identification that it can slurp up.
