Rush, I think you misunderstood the project. What it provides is only
a charging outlet, not an EVSE. Each standard NEMA 14-50 can be
activated using a special App and no more than 6 residents can be
charging at the same time, if they all draw 40 Amps which they should
- because the charging is organised in a queue: if you want to change,
you request and are given a position in the queue, which are filled
and (re-) allocated as the 300A service they have comes available for
charging. Since each outlet is 50A, only 6 can be powered up at the
same time, dividing the 300 in 6 chunks of 50A. What you plug *into*
your charging outlet is a standard mobile charger, so if someone
steals a "charging cord" then it is the complete EVSE, simply
unplugged from the NEMA 14-50 wall outlet. So, no charging cords
without plugs as you suggested. The smart thing of course is the
queuing and scheduling of 90 outlets into 6 active ones at any time,
so they can have a 300A service to start with. I am sure than once EV
ownership increases, they can upgrade their service and power more
outlets at the same time.
Hope this clarifies,
Cor.
