Hi Wayne,

Thanks for the answers. I am glad and surprised to hear about work that you Guys do on the new system. Looking forward to see the new proctorlabs.

Gang -

I have been able to review this thread and want to give all of
you an update - our official response.

We have been in the process of entirely overhauling Proctor Labs
for about 8 months. The code was written in an undesirable language,
and it has essentially been an entire rewrite of the current solution
as well as adding features and functionality - and things like the
ability to reserve VMware racks, Juniper racks and racks that are set
up with various Data Center components (hardware / software).

We also have been working on an enhanced support solution for
products and vRacks - which will be rolled out at the same time the
new Proctor Labs site is launched. As somebody mentioned, I understand that some people would like to see 4-hour timeslots, however - just as
many people don't - therefore we have to either support both, or
support the ability to allow you to link 4-hour sessions together. The
problem with that - is that there may not be the ability to stay on
the same rack if someone has the session before and after yours. Also,
time zones come into play - when will a session start, and when will
it end. I can guarantee that just as many people will be frustrated
with the start and end times as will be content. In a nutshell, there
are several things we've been working through to ensure that a
majority of our customers are happy. At the moment, I can't give an
exact date as to when this new Proctor Labs solution will be pushed
live, just know that I am impatient and my web team knows this! ;-)

Also - addressing someone's comments suggesting that we don't
fix product errors...that is not accurate. As product versions are
released, known errors are fixed. Let's face it - I would love to
commit to having a 100% error free product, but after running this
company for over 12 years, I've come to realize that it is nearly
impossible to expect that. We do, however, provide industry-leading
support (much better than any of our competitors) and we shoot to fix
known errors / bugs with updated products.

I greatly appreciate everyone's valuable feedback, and we will
continue to work on enhancements to everything we offer to maintain
our position as a leader in this market.

My thought on this...if that idea would be profitable IPx would have it. My understanding is that the vrack is cheap as petrol in Saudi Arabia and if you miss your 4 hours then that is your problem. You can imagine that if the 8 hour slot ends there has to be person (on call) in case the router does not recover. If you think about it then you know why 4 hour time slot does not work for IPx. That means they need to use more resources to cover something which is very cheap and I guess probably not very profitable for them.

I think question goes to this. If you want to have 4 hour time slot would you be able to pay more for vrack? If so how much would you be able to spend? I prefer to have 8 hours slots for $25 and maybe waste couple of hours (unfortunately) because I live in Europe.

Alternatively you can buy 4 switches (around $600) and connect them into your GNS and never think about time difference again.

i'm on the same ....

need 4 hour slots instead 8hours... because ... when we start as CCIE
candidate to practice the labs, we don't had the enough
mind strong to start at 8hour lab...

another interesting point of view.

When I asked for a fraction of time , sales person told it's not possible. My case was I needed about 11 hour time slots. I told xxxxxxx company provides such facility but IPX told they are training candidates for 8 hour
slots & their timeslot period was designed for this purpose.

One support guy was kind enough to give me few hours extension at the end of session (if there are enough free racks for next session). I appreciate
his help.

But other support guy needed one additional voucher even if I ask to start my session 2~3 hours before start time. (eventhough this approach can earn some extra money from pressurised candidates , in long run it's not good
for vendor)

(I needed additional hours to check everything very well & findout my
mistakes before the exam ; definitely nobody can spare 16hours
continuously)

This is my experience with Proctorlabs
