Hello
I am back with an update:
After upgrading to 8.10 Intrepid I can confirm I still have this issue, the
upgrade and switch to KDE4 in this aspect had absolutely no effect.
The problems only affect my workstation with AMD64X2 processor, ASUS-
M2N-SLI mptherboard and the Nvidia Nforce 590 Chip
At the moment, neither is installed on the machine where I found the
problem, an AMD64x2 on ASUS M2N-SLI motherboard with Nvidida Nforce590
chipset. Therefore I cannot give you any new test results from the same
machine as of now. This machine is configured "conservatively" and
stability is a prior
I get this codec installer never ending loop problem like whenever I try to
play some asx files too. I know I also get the problem with other file types,
but I am 100% certain I get it with asx files that contain mms protocol
references to wmw files. This is a fairly common way for wrapping medi
New update here:
I tried to turn off (not deinstall) knetworkmanager but it did not help me.
Same partial system freeze/slowdown.
I tried to deinstall knetworkmanager but then I was not able to access the web!

I am adding a comment here with links to some related information. It appears
that Knetworkmanager may be to blame for all of this:

http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=367541
I am adding Knetwrokmanager to the list of culprits.

I'd like to counter that. I think the problem also persists in Kubuntu 8.04 HH
KDE 3.5.9 release. I experience similar problems, and I searched up this bug

I have installed Kubuntu Hardy Heron 8.04 regular release with KDE

problem: I can't get Konqueror to load anything from the net when I have
cache enabled. However, I am unable to get any decent error messages
out of my system
I have just discovered that one way to recreate this problem is to name
your photos in digikam with some name that contains a non ASCII
character. I frequently use ÆØÅ and æøå (because I am Norwegian), Just
now I uploaded a folder of photos to Flickr and noticed that all the
failed uploads have æøå
I have been working on a system freeze up related to konqueror all day, and I
think this may be the reason for it.
I have tried a lot of hypotheses of my own making and some with a little help
from my friends at kubuntuforums.net.
Please see this thread for more information on my error-searching
Hi, I am not using the EN_CA locale. Yet I did experience similar
problems as described here (gradual slowdown of system --> complete

The problem was resolved by sudo apt-get remove language-pack-kde-en

I have almost the same problem as reported in the top post. However,
there are a few minor changes, such as the wording in the errormessage.

Hi.
I am experiencing this too, on kubuntu 7.04, both for 64 bit and 32 bit
versions.
I have the following hardware setup on this computer:
Motherboard: Asus M2N-SLI Deluxe
CPU: AMD Athlon 64 X2 4200
Memory: OCZ DDR2 2048MB Platinum XTC Dual Ch
GFX card: POV GeFORCE 7900 GT (Nvidia)
Currently
if 3 different users observe this, I guess it is to be established as
"confirmed". Correct me if I am wrong!

Sorry, not possible to comment on that due to living physically

Colour depth problem on one display following upgrade to edgy

I have now also installed 32 bit kubuntu system. The difference between
the 64 bit and the 32 bit system is that the 32 bit system seems to
still crash, but less regularly compared to the 64 bit system.
I sense NVIDIA driver issues, but how to prove it?

Finally I have managed to trap more information on this bug. Here is

npviewer is a netscape plugin viewer. It enables flash in 64 bit

that it is enabled also in konqueror (and is started by any webpage
using flash) - however it does not work in konqueror (needs a special
