Finally I have managed to trap more information on this bug. Here is
from my /var/log/messages in the past few days. What you see at the top
of the list is the npviewer segfault, and you can see that this is not
fatal, at least not directly by any means, as the computer kept running
apparently normally for more than three hours afterwards. Then suddenly
at three o'clock in the night, something not usual takes place. I cannot
understand what is going on - but you can also see that when I returned
to the computer the following afternoon I had to restart it to get
something done.
