Public bug reported: I am using Kubuntu 6.10. (64 bit) My computer has
Motherboard: Asus M2N-SLI Deluxe CPU: AMD Athlon 64 X2 4200 Memory: OCZ DDR2 2048MB Platinum XTC Dual Ch GFX card: POV GeFORCE 7900 GT (Nvidia I have noticed for quite some time that when I leave my computer unattended for longer preiods of time, it would be locked up completely when I returned. This would happen after the power saving had blanked my monitors. It was not possible to ssh into the machine, and the screens would never "wake up" from their sleep, regardless of how much i cliked on buttons and tapped the keyboard. I finally became so irritated with this that i decided I wanted to fix it (and this bug report is part of that process). Troubleshooting I have tried so far: - switching off DPMS in xorg.conf file. This results in one of 2 endings when I leave the computer unattended for quite some time. Either X or KDM restarts (session terminates somehow and I need to log in again) or the screensaver will be on, but stalled. The stalled screensaver led me to believe that the problem was rather in the screensaver than with the power management features, so I will now re-enable DPMS. All in all the problems seemed less frequent with DPMS enabled but that may be totall conincidental. I wonder what to do now? I have had enough lock-ups and need some help to resolve this :) ** Affects: Ubuntu Importance: Undecided Status: Unconfirmed -- screensaver (?) locks up computer or causes reboot https://launchpad.net/bugs/91132 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
