Public bug reported: Some days ago, I posted information concerning this problem on kubuntuforums.org. Later I added the same problem description to ubuntuforums.net. I am not getting any useful feedback (at least I have not, so far) except some other users have reported very similar problems.
This url will send you to the relevant thread on kubuntuforums.org. (Picture is included there, and link to topics on ubuntuforum). http://kubuntuforums.net/forums/index.php?topic=10686.0 Here follows paste of my problem description: I have noticed that I get a colour distortion on one of my screens after I upgraded to Edgy. I don't know if it is related to the upgrade at all, but it did not use to be a problem earlier. The Symptoms: I use a greyscale image for my wallpaper (i have as much as possible in greyscales atm). After the upgrade, I noted that the darker grey shades were being rendered as "petrol stain" greenish-pinkish-blues instead of a smooth transition from dark grey to even darker grey to almost black. Below is a screenshot onto which I have indicated where the colours start "folding" into petrol stain instead of darkening as they should do. click on image for larger version (please see kubuntuforums). I expect that on your screen, it will look quite normal dark grey to black where I get the problem with the "petrol staining". An important observation Just as I was the description for this topic, I noticed that as I moved the GIMP window where I have the screenshot for resizing, the "petrol stain" was removed on the other screen. Moving the window across the desktop, to the first screen again, the petrol stains reappered. Thus, this is only a problem with one of my screens. Also, this goes away at X restart with Ctrl-Alt-Backspace it returns at reboot i don't know which package is causing problem. My xorg.conf file is posted on the kubuntuforums thread, if that should be relevant. ** Affects: Ubuntu Importance: Undecided Status: Unconfirmed -- Colour depth problem on one display following upgrade to edgy https://launchpad.net/bugs/71094 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
