At the moment, neither is installed on the machine where I found the
problem, an AMD64x2 on ASUS M2N-SLI motherboard with Nvidida Nforce590
chipset. Therefore I cannot give you any new test results from the same
machine as of now. This machine is configured "conservatively" and
stability is a priority.

I have a newer laptop with an intel core processor where I have allowed
myself to play with cool new hacks such as KDE4, and on that machine I
don't have any problems with the cache on using KDE4. That does not
eliminate the possibility for it still being a problem on the AMD64X2
workstation, if the problem is related to specific pieces of hardware
which is not installed on the laptop.
