Get some fenders, and not too skinny ones. I'd go for something in the
45-55mm range (I have 42s over Jack Browns and wish I had gone wider).
Will improve the look with the skinny tires, and if you want to try a
wider tire later, you'll still have room.

I just recently built up my 60cm Sam with 50mm wide SKS chromoplastics
and they cover 700x38 tires *very* well width-wise. They are not
terribly long but are plenty long if you are going to add mudflaps

you're in for a treat if you ever get around to trying grand bois or
pacenti 650b tires.
The sidepull brakes, in your case, will not be a limiting factor for
tire clearance. You should be able to do a 700x40 with a fender, and
probably 700x45 without fenders. Personally, I think the Planet Bike
Cascadia fenders are much nicer than the SKS fenders.

I installed Velo Orange 48mm fluted profile aluminum fenders and
highly recommend them; they fit perfectly with maybe 1 mm to spare at
the chainstays. I am running 36 mm tires, but they should take up to

of recent production have a somewhat gaudy Planet Bike logo running up
the backside of the rear fender. The silver colored 3M reflective tape

I have my brake levers a little ahead of the grips. I adjusted the
reach on the lever to bring it closer to the bar. This allows me to
have my last 2 fingers on the lever and the other 2 fingers gripping
both sides of the brake lever body, thumb on top of the bar. This
gives a very secure feeling t
