FYI, for the adventurous, you can make your own hand crimp SS lifelines. I've
made lifelines with both a wrench swage and a Loos hand swage tool. I have the
Loos tool. I got it off eBay for about $60. It sells normally for around
$250-300.
Couple of points here.

Charlie,
I recently (last week) replaced my upper lifelines with bare stainless. I
did the lower lifelines a couple years ago. All I did was take them into
West Marine and ask for a duplicate in bare stainless. The work was

Single braid dyneema is real easy to splice. I'm pretty sure it's fairly UV resistant too!Sam :-)
Charlie;
When I added the radar arch and new stern railings to Imzadi in 2008/2009,
it was time to replace my 30 year old lifelines. I determined the lengths I

I have been interested in the synthetic line option myself. The biggest

Mike, I can't help other than to advise that the straps on those things had

I learned that long ago when my Seiko with similar strap fell on to the

This one has sentimental value though. Also I suspect it has more

I am considering replacing my 17 year old lifelines (wire with white plastic

I like the idea of bare SS wire (long lifetime) although the hassle of the
fittings, swaging, etc. is not appealing.
OTOH, high tech line is begining to be used which eliminates the fittings,

I hung across the stern pulpits corner a lambswool lined horse saddle girth

Joel,
Sorry I sold my boat and you can't race with me this year unless I buy
something else. It was fun last season. I found Woody and Carl on
